Do I need to send my Fitbit back?

Complete first world problem here - sorry if it's been done before too.

DH is getting me a Fitbit Charge 2 for Christmas (I know because I asked for it - no surprises at our house!)

I did C25K last year and now run 6.5k x 2 per week - aiming to get to 10K eventually. I thought the Fitbit would be good because it has GPS. BUT just realised I'll still have to take my phone out with me (currently hold it in my hand and I am getting a bit fed up of this).

So, thought I should really swap the Fitbit for something like the Garmin Vivosmart HR + GPS.

But then I thought - I go running around fairly isolated country lanes - perhaps I should take my phone anyway in case I twist an ankle etc and need help. Also, I'd like to wear the thing as a watch too - and I'm not sure if the Garmin does that too.

What do you do? Do you always take your phone anyway? Do these fitness bands really work as a substitute watch too? I work in a job where I really need a watch on my wrist! Is there another solution?

Get an arm band for your phone - super cheap from anywhere pretty well. I have the aldi fitness thingy without gps and it's fine as a watch (but no stop watch function) and I love it.
