Well somehow my times and the time on my watch don't match, website says 2hrs 35 so bit gutted with that but I guess I've had time off.

stilllearnin · 12/03/2017 15:34

Well done guy. So glad it went well. Is it possible the longer time is the gun time? It can take quite a long time to get over the start line.

GuyMartinsSideburns · 12/03/2017 16:15

Oh that might be so, it was around 9/10 mins or so before I got to the start line. I guess I should feel pleased I did it in any case, after having the foot injury.

stilllearnin · 12/03/2017 17:00

My watch time matches the chip time (from when I crossed the start to when I crossed the finish) so I think your time is 2.26. Fantastic result...have a lovely recovery day Smile

GuyMartinsSideburns · 12/03/2017 17:14

Thank you 😊

Lifeisabeach · 14/03/2017 21:02

Well done Guy - that's a great time for your first one.

I did my 10k race on Sunday in 62 mins. Bit slower than I'd hoped for but I didn't have the best preparation (too much running on Fri and Sat meant legs were sore and tired), and there was a killer hill just after the halfway point. Glad to have got round it though.

So it's just over 8 weeks til the half in my town that I still haven't entered! Should be enough time to build up the distance shouldn't it?

chutneypig · 15/03/2017 06:31

Brilliant Guy!

I'd say that's long enough Life, increase a mile a week sort of thing. Definitely.

londonmummy1966 · 17/03/2017 13:15

Hello everyone - well done guy - I know I won't be that quick on Sunday. Thanks for chasing me chutney but sadly crisis with elderly aunt meant that I've not got a lot of running in - I managed a 10K last week and 5k on Saturday (after a walk/run parkrun with a friend) so I have had a massive taper. Anyway lots of pasta and water tomorrow and hopefully I'll get round before the sweeper.....

It's Hampton court isn't it? Enjoy it london. Its a lovely course.

londonmummy1966 · 17/03/2017 23:16

Yes still - thank you am panicking now and wishing I'd done a bit more running since Christmas....

Sounds like you've had a lot on london. I had a very hard taper before my last half and ate loads ahead of it and felt very good on the day. Mentally I felt completely off track but once I got going. Good luck!

I've not been out at all this week, only done pilates, so definitely feeling a bit odd, I've got a nine mile trail race tomorrow. I say race, for me it's just the distance and enjoying it, I know I'll be close to the back. Just seemed a good idea - hoping the weather holds out!

What's London supposed to be like tomorrow on the weather front?

MrsHopity · 18/03/2017 08:14

Hi please can I come on board?

Iv signed up to my first half at the end of may. It will be fun but bigger distance Iv done is 10k.

I was doing ok with the training but trying to get the long runs in at a weekend are hard. I will find a way though!

londonmummy1966 · 18/03/2017 14:39

Thanks Chutney - I'm wandering round holding a bottle of water to remind myself to drink and am planning a big bowl of pasta for supper..

Hello Hopity glad to hear the training is going well - it always seems such a massive step up from 10k to 13 miles - I appreciate the peace and quiet of no kids on long runs though!!

Hello MrsHopity - I know what you mean about the long runs at the weekend, it's definitely a challenge.

You're doing better than me london I'm carb loading on biscuits Blush. Waters a good plan, without a doubt. What time is kick off tomorrow?

londonmummy1966 · 18/03/2017 21:15

Well - wasn't just pasta chutney also crisps and chocolate cake...

kick off is 9am - so just like a parkrun then Grin

Think I may be too late to wish you good luck this morning london. Hope you have a good run.

londonmummy1966 · 19/03/2017 14:53

Thanks still - at that point I was trying to find the start line. For some reason they had put me in the first wave with all the superfast club runners. I can only assume they misread 2hours 30 for 1 hour 30 on my estimated time. Confused. Am happy though as I made it within a minute or two of target despite a loo stop.

It was a lovely route although very windy in places - especially the last two miles across Bushey Park. The event village was lovely too with hog roasts etc for lunch and the biggest medal I have ever seen. Definitely one for the bucket list if anyone is looking for a spring half next year.

That's brilliant London. Well done. Happy recovery xx

Sirzy · 19/03/2017 15:25

Can I hope in. I am now officially a half marathon runner!

Wigan half today, awful hill from miles 7-10 so pleased with my 2.33 time as I was aiming for sub 2.30 before I realised how evil the hill wasn

chutneypig · 21/03/2017 07:18

That sounds lovely london, although wind towards the end is hard. I imagine it can pick up over Bushy. So glad you made it inside your target too, well done.

Well done to you too Sirzy, that's a great time with a massive hill. Three miles Shock

I survived my trail run and came in under my target. I had plenty left for the last third so was happy with that. Whatever the distance I seem to drop back in the middle third,

londonmummy1966 · 21/03/2017 09:25

Well done Sirzy and chutney hope neither of you are quite as stiff as I am...

OP posts:
Sirzy · 21/03/2017 09:50

I am stiffer today than I was yesterday. Need to get the foam roller out later I think!

londonmummy1966 · 21/03/2017 17:34

I find a large gin does the trick just as well sirzy

OP posts:
Sirzy · 21/03/2017 17:35

That sounds more tempting. I have wine in the fridge so may have to extend your theory and see if it works for other alcohol

londonmummy1966 · 21/03/2017 17:56

Wine definitely works - can vouch for that!!
