Oh dear, up at 2.30am this morning feeding DS2 back to sleep and seem to have purchased some asics kayano!

chutneypig · 04/03/2017 06:49

Excellent multitasking Life, hopefully they'll do the trick for your knee and toes.

I think finding a plan that doesn't look too daunting is a good start. Some are so complicated they make my head spin. I did find this that looked pretty straightforward www.runnersworld.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/21km-Novice-Training-Programme.pdf

I have a brand new pair of Gt2000s but have not been out yet this month to christen them - not looking good for the HM in 2 weeks time.

Hello Buttercup I was you last year - you have masses of time if you are doing 12k now but it is important to take it easy and have some weeks where you run less. Which HM are you doing?

OP posts:
chutneypig · 06/03/2017 06:11

That might be pushing it a bit london, how much of a taper are you doing?

You're doing better than me Stainless - taking it steady is sensible and having some slower weeks too, as london said. I failed to get out for my eight miles yesterday as I felt so tired. You've got plenty of time to convince yourself of the distance, that'll help enormously.

I'm so annoyed with myself really, aiming to go for a very slow plod this morning before work, only half an hour but need to get out. I did sign up for the half yesterday though, it's in a month, but a 15k trail in a couple of weeks.

londonmummy1966 · 06/03/2017 08:47

Yes you're right chutney I'm going to try and guilt trip myself into a longish plod tonight

Someone chase me up about it please? To make sure I do it....

Did you get out london? My plod was very short and very plodding but at least I got out.

Aiming for a better interval run at lunchtime today.

londonmummy1966 · 07/03/2017 09:29

Thanks chutney no I got over taken by family matters last night but will try today and if not then tomorrow morning. Hope your interval run goes well

Fast and flat always stands out for me too. I'm on the hunt for a similar 10k after my April half but there's not too many round here. Lots with hills though!

The plan sounds good, nice variety, I do like a good plan.

My run went well thanks london, felt better for it, I think it being sunny helped a lot. How about you?

londonmummy1966 · 08/03/2017 08:41

Thanks Chutney no run for me as everyone was late home and required serial feeding...

I WILL run tonight as I've lined neighbour up for a 5K and I'll do a second loop to make it 10K and last long run before HM in 10 days time...

Hi all, I've got my first ever half marathon on Sunday and the nerves are kicking in bigtime, I wondered if anyone had any tips or encouragement to calm me a bit?!

My longest run ever was 12 miles but that was a few months ago and I've recently had 3 weeks or so off with a foot injury. It's really knocked my confidence! A runner I know said that with all the miles I've done over the past year I could afford to have those weeks off and still manage the half, I just feel so anxious about it all now. To make matters worse I'm also due on on race day (sorry tmi) and the thought of having to sort myself out amongst everything that's going on is also a worry.

Short of running very fast right now in the opposite direction for a few days I feel at a bit of a loose end!

Any words most appreciated Smile

chutneypig · 10/03/2017 18:41

Did you make your 10k london?

It's tough squeezing it all in isn't Stainless. I had a day off yesterday and was doing other stuff but it was just me at home and it was so much less hassle getting out. Managed eight miles and felt really good. I'm sure half of it was not squeezing it all in. The other half was sunshine!

Hello Guy. I'd say you've got the miles in. I felt rubbish before my last half and did a really hard taper and my legs were so much better on the day for it. I struggled with the head stuff as I felt so underprepared but the day itself was great. The other thing I do is if I can't sleep, I'm a rubbish sleeper, is drink a glass of water if I wake up. At least I think I'm hydrating if nothing else! How's your foot feeling?

stilllearnin · 10/03/2017 19:13

Good advice chutney. My advice guy is to go out and enjoy it!!

GuyMartinsSideburns · 11/03/2017 06:33

Thank you both! Can't believe it's tomorrow Shock my kits ready and I've got a bag packed to leave with dh. Didn't have a great nights sleep last night (grumpy toddler) and my foot feels a little achey but hopefully all will come good tomorrow. Just feels like I'm in for a lonely and uncomfortable couple of hours...

stilllearnin · 11/03/2017 10:52

Well, it will take as long as it takes! I did the Hampton court half the other week , and kind of thought as it as a training run. Would that help at all. I really enjoyed it and had some good camaraderie on the way round. Have you any others planned? I am doing new forest in September and looking for a cheeky 10 miler in between. Good luck!

stilllearnin · 11/03/2017 10:53

Also, the first one is nerve wracking. I didn't sleep at all the night before, which seems silly now!

stilllearnin · 11/03/2017 10:54

Lorelei what's happened to your first run? Grin

GuyMartinsSideburns · 11/03/2017 12:13

i will try and keep that in mind, thanks. No I don't have any other races planned at the moment, this has been at the forefront of my mind for ages tbh! I will have a look and see what's about. Wondering what to have for tea tonight!

stilllearnin · 12/03/2017 06:28

Good luck today guy hope you stay dry (raining here)

GuyMartinsSideburns · 12/03/2017 07:18

Raining here too Hmm Thanks, I'm getting picked up at 8am so getting a bit jittery now tbh!

chutneypig · 12/03/2017 12:36

Hope it went well Guy and that it dried out a bit. The rain has clung on for dear life here!

GuyMartinsSideburns · 12/03/2017 14:58

Yes it turned into a lovely day actually. My rough time is 2hrs 26mins, I'm just glad I got round!
