London marathoners assemble

As the ballot spaces start being allocated I thought I'd start a thread for those of us lucky enough to get a space.

I was rejected through the ballot but I have had a charity space since June so I'm running (and raising £1400) I've been training for a half so I can get the distance under my belt. Im up to 11 miles now in just over 2 hours. I'm slow but getting there. I'd like to get in under 5 hours but I'm happy to just be running it.

Yay!!!

pom poms

Well done to all!!!

Nicknacky · 23/04/2017 20:28

I finished 5.16. Was tougher than I thought mentally which surprised me as I had quite a positive attitude. That disappeared at 16 miles!

Twodogsandahooch · 23/04/2017 20:52

It was for me too Nicknacky. Between 16 and 21 miles I was close to stopping. It was mainly the idea of turning up to work on Tuesday and telling all my lovely colleagues that I didn't make it that kept me going!!

Twodogsandahooch · 23/04/2017 20:52

Didn't help that I had a music malfunction so my emergency music for when the going got tough wasn't there.

emummy · 23/04/2017 21:26

I found it tough from about 13 to 17 miles; it was warm and the noise was almost too much! Got to the Run Mummy Run cheer squad at mile 19, got an orange slice and hugs, cried all over them and then felt better! Last 6 miles tough though as my left leg got scorer and scorer, stretched it lots but it just got worse. Torturing myself on the foam roller now!

oliversax · 23/04/2017 22:02

My 3 year old thinks I won because I got a medal, praise enough for me.

Awholenewstart · 23/04/2017 22:09

Well done everyone. What a great feeling to have done it!
My legs also hurt like hell from about mile 20. That was as far as I'd done in training runs assuming the crowd would see me through the rest. Didn't bargain for the quads seizing up and being agony.
The post run massage was agony and ecstasy at the same time!
Wonder how we will all manage stairs tomorrow? 😂

LobsterMac · 24/04/2017 04:02

empress gosh no it was not me in a costume! How the runners manage to do that is totally beyond me!

oliversax · 24/04/2017 08:26

The lobster ran it in 3hrs something!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 24/04/2017 08:54

Shock I was watching next to a group dressed as cheerleaders, pom-poms & all. They were doing routines & a few runners paused for selfies with them Grin

oliversax · 24/04/2017 09:14

BBC sport has continuous footage of the finish line. You can forward to your clock time and see yourself cross the line. It's split screen of all three tunnels.

HUGE, HUGE well done to everyone Grin
I have sore hands from clapping, weird eyesight from trying to spot individuals in a moving sea of runners for over 6 hours and ringing ears from the bell but had the most AWESOME time.
DS got a, hopefully, positive look from 2nd place woman Tirunesh Dibaba and a thumbs up from the Brazilian 1st place para-athlete for his excellent and bloody loud bell ringing with about 500m to go and we managed to spot far more running friends than I thought we would.
Tired and happy supporters, still in awe of every single runner and I REALLY want to be one of the runners next year!

Elba84 · 24/04/2017 10:11

Oh my goodness I am sore! Not just legs, literally every muscle in my body hurts.

Just watched the finish line footage and was pleased with mine- after hobbling around the last six miles I managed an impromptu sprint finish to avoid being overtaken by a rhino (not a sentence I ever thought I'd write Grin). I also overtook Jesus on the way down the Mall. I have no idea how they do it either- I would simply collapse I think!

Thanks so much to all those who were out there supporting us. Everyone says the crowd carries you round and it's so true. I would definitely have stopped without all the support (and jelly babies!). Feel quite emotional about it today!

C0RA · 24/04/2017 10:16

Just thread crashing to say well done all of you 🏃🏽‍♀️🏅

Twodogsandahooch · 24/04/2017 10:16

Kitty where are you? All ok?

oliversax · 24/04/2017 10:53

Yes, hope all ok kitty.

feet I gave a big cheer and a wave to Willow as I ran past and got a big cheer in return. Thanks for that.

Elba84 · 24/04/2017 11:52

Also wondering where kitty is. Hope everything's ok.

chocolatepastry · 24/04/2017 13:24

Kitty did it in about 5.30 I think- presume she's just sleeping now!

I managed 5hr1min and was and am totally shattered. everything aches and I can't seem to get off the sofa!

I'm all honesty I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected, so I shan't be doing another but am chuffed with myself for doing it!

Congrats to everyone who powered round, and for all the support and advice on here over the last 6 months xx

KittyandTeal · 24/04/2017 15:56

Hiya

Sorry, took ages to get home last night! Huge well done everyone.

I loved it. I ran with a rmr and finished in 5:30:24! Literally just before you Elba, we must have been really close. I'm so pleased with my time, it was a bit of a brutal time through isle of dogs and was hotter than I was expecting but I really enjoyed it.

Mummy that's a brilliant time!

I'm sore today and a bit tired but really, really happy and proud. Elba you may have seen me.

Kitty and Lobster great photos (and it seems we have a name in common Smile)

Lobster you have just run a marathon...enjoy this moment and let everyone be in awe of you!!

Kitty can't believe we finished so close! I'm sure we probably crossed paths at some point but I wasn't taking much in a lot of the time! It's a shame as it would of been lovely to meet you!!

I've already gone from thinking never again yesterday to planning the next half marathon, except that's now become possibly entering another London ballot. And googling international marathons. I'm trying to remind myself how much I hated the last few weeks of training!!! I'm anticipating a bit of a come down over the next few weeks.

How's everyone doing physically? I wasn't as sore as I thought I would be this morning, but felt sick and exhausted by lunchtime. And I have a huge blister on one toe that I'm fairly sure extends to the nail bed, but can't bring myself to inspect it further. I think the other nine toenails have survived though!

LobsterMac · 24/04/2017 23:32

I've a huge blister on one big toe but it doesn't hurt so I'm trying to leave it alone!

Other than that, I'm surprisingly good. A bit stiff when I stand up and try to move, but ok after a short hobble.

Odd sharp pain in one instep though - what's that about?

chocolatepastry · 25/04/2017 07:30

I'm a wreck! Properly hobbling around and my thighs are solid. It hurts to do any step or stairs and sitting and or standing from sitting needs both arms to lever myself 🙁 my me k still aches and got a bruise on my lower back where my phone was in the pocket and must have been rubbing/banging. And I've got my 2 year old to look after today and the school run to survive.

Top of foot is still sore and painful, still wondering if I ran a marathon on a stress fracture!!

I am definitely not googling any races and in awe of you that want to do more. I want to sit on the sofa and drink tea!!

emummy · 25/04/2017 08:10

My left leg is slowly improving, foam rolling has been interesting! Felt really tired yesterday and couldn't study. DH has been on dog walking duty! Not planning to run yet, will try a dog walk later. Not sure about another marathon, planning 1 or 2 halfs later in the year.
