So I finally started jogging **typo edited by MNHQ**

After months of moaning about my weight/fitness and not doing anything about either, finding better ways to cope with poor mental health and completing a college course I finally started to feel the time was right to get off my arse and do something.

I downloaded an app for c25k since most of the threads I read here are based on that method of exercise and off I went

Day 1 was me constantly changing my mind back and forth while using the pro moments to get dressed in suitable clothing until it got to the point where backing out would mean getting fully changed again and therefore ridiculous so I might as well get started. I didn't manage to leave the house but I was able to do the workout up and down my living room.

Day 2 I found myself determined to actually get up and outside this time. After getting ready I only had roughly 5 minutes of hesitation before I made it outside and started the app. Doing it outside was harder than indoors and I did have to stop and pause the app twice when I spotted groups of people waiting for the bus and couldn't bring myself to move on until they'd gone but once it was over and I was home I was so proud of myself.

Day 3 This time there was no hesitation before going outside, even though it was drizzling. I changed my time to 6.30 am and altered my route a bit. I'm trying not to push too hard so my jogging part isn't much faster than my walking part.

Day 4 I am a bit of a geek so was able to get pokemon go on my phone and I use the exercise time to hatch my eggs and have even caught the game creatures during my walking bits if one happens to pop up. I felt a bit strained and realised that I had been missing a rest day.

Day 5 Rest day. Still ended up going for a walk anyway but without the jogging part thanks to that game

Day 6 (Today) I have a long way to go but i'm determined to keep it up. Its hard but I knew it would be and I really want to make it work.

I also know that I needed to greatly kick my sugar habit and so in addition to the exercise I have been working on that part. I have been eating more fruit and trying not to be tempted into buying crap.

I will do this

Well, I've heard of the offensive term but not with 'ing' making it a verb.

I think when posted in 'exercise' it was reasonably clear that op wasn't being racist. But I think people should report if they want to.

NeedATrim · 11/07/2016 22:07

Sometimes I think these things are done just to deliberately aggrevate. Of all the ways to amalgamate the words jogging and walking, wogging comes up trumps. Honestly. Its flipping insensitive at the very least.

yummysummerpudding · 11/07/2016 22:07

Report it then.

Mrsmorton · 11/07/2016 22:08

Some people can find offence anywhere. I think it's a sign of how far we've come that a brand new word exists and most people immediately understand what it means (portmanteau) rather than situate it with racism.

Haffdonga · 11/07/2016 22:09

Anyone who uses that word is surely a Twidiot. Or a Funt.

Couldn't they have called it Wunning?

NeedATrim · 11/07/2016 22:11

I have good faith that op is in no way racist. I'm just stumped by the word.

LolBeansandSalad · 11/07/2016 22:11

It's daft anyway, nobody jogs anymore, they go for a run.

It should be wunning Grin

Well done OP Smile

Sounds like Jonathan Ross has taken up running :)

Owllady · 11/07/2016 22:13

Or wagging
But that would be skipping school

NeedATrim · 11/07/2016 22:15

No, I'm not going to report it, yummy. Nor did I want to. I've been called a wog in my lifetime but its certainly Not the ops fault for the name given to her exercise of choice. But honestly, whoever decided to come up with that - I'm just shaking my head.

5tardusty · 11/07/2016 22:17

Jalking?

OiWithThePoodlesAlready · 11/07/2016 22:19

God. Poor op. Okay she used a bad word but she didn't bloody make it up and I'm sure she isn't a giant racist using the mn exercise forum as a cunning way to spread her hate around.

teal it sounds like you're doing really well! I always find the motivation to actually get started is the hardest bit and you've overcome that.

yummysummerpudding · 11/07/2016 22:21

I'm sorry to hear that Needs bit I'm sure you can appreciate the OP meant you nor anyone else any offence Flowers

NeedATrim · 11/07/2016 22:51

Oh yes, I knew that from the get go.

TeaInGlasgow · 12/07/2016 06:48

Um wow I really didn't mean to cause any offense and will ask for the title to be changed. I simply meant it as slang for the combination of walking and jogging. It didn't even occur to me to check to see if the term was racist, indeed, putting the term into google just gives me an immediate page of references to walk/jogging and this thread itself at the bottom of the page.

Again, I am really sorry

OP posts:
MissDallas · 12/07/2016 07:31

My husband does a variation of this, he calls it 'dogging'. I guess it must be a combination of jogging and dawdling.

Seriously though OP, well done. I am also doing C25K and really enjoying it.

Can you explain about the Pokémon Go thing to those of us that don't understand it?

Scarydinosaurs · 12/07/2016 07:33

Miss Dallas if your husband is dogging you've got more things to worry about than Pokemon Shock

ChickyDuck · 12/07/2016 07:43

Amazing start OP, keep it up now! Getting going is definitely the hardest part, now all you have to do is carry on how you are :)

Stellar67 · 12/07/2016 07:50

Well done OP! You can do it.

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 12/07/2016 08:07

I'm sure you didn't mean to use an offensive word op! I'm amazed that this word has slipped into common slang. If you don't know though, wog is really offensive so probably best not to use it again Grin

Mooey89 · 12/07/2016 08:32

OP is clearly fairly anxious and is doing a really positive thing.

I agree that I can see why the word used was not good but do we really need to jump on her for something that clearly wasn't meant to cause offence??

gamerchick · 12/07/2016 09:27

How did you do today OP?

TeaInGlasgow · 12/07/2016 09:48

Today is a rest day, i'm not sure what i'm supposed to do on days like this as I don't want to hurt myself or burn out but at the same time, it feels wrong to be sat here. I was planning on taking a walk later nothing too far or fast.

I've reported my thread in the hopes that the title can get changed and again, I am sorry for any offense.

OP posts:
dudsville · 16/07/2016 17:40

Tealn, this thread has given me a real laugh. I hope you can shrug off those that can't see past your not realising it was a racist term. I came on here because today was my first day and I liked reading about your account of your first several days. I've just posted on another thread but wanted to come on here to say hi.

My day 1 today was pretty poor, I couldn't run the whole of the run times. I walk a lot so I didn't feel any benefit form the walking times... but I did something and came home sweaty and out of breath so feel proud.

I know your embarrassment when approaching others. I'd been psyching myself up for my first run when a learner driver had at that point clearly been asked to practice parallel parking, so of course I had to keep walking until I was beyond them!

I also feel weird wearing anything too sporty as I feel like a bit of a fraud!

I know we're supposed to be doing every other day but I'm going to try again tomorrow as I really don't feel I did much but I'll be curious to read how you get on. I hope you keep posting!
