Running & melting in the heat

I'm really struggling in the warmer temperatures.

parkrun this morning started fantastically - a comfortably speedy (for me!) first 1.5 / 2 miles which were into a light breeze. After the turning point (out and back course) the sun came out, the breeze dropped and I couldn't maintain pace. I had to duck into the shade and almost walk as I felt like I was overheating.

How do I overcome this? I was wearing shorts and vest, so not overdressed. I thought I was well hydrated. I generally don't carry a drink unless I'm going over 10km. Caps give me a headache and I tend to feel even hotter in them.... I can't think of anything else!

I'm a lost cause! Please help!

I used to wear a damp t-shirt. Cools you right down.
