Trainers for 30 day shred? Help!

I've just started Jillian Michaels' 30 day shred dvd, and it's killing me, but in a good way.... The problem is that while I've done plenty of exercise before, it's only ever been pilates, yoga etc, which I've always preferred to do barefoot. I'm quickly realising that this is not a good idea with the 30DS, as it's much higher impact than I'm used to, also I have mild knee issues and use orthotic insoles in normal shoes.

I've never owned proper trainers in my life, and have no idea where to start, nor do I relish the thought of a trip to Niketown, for oh-so many reasons. Can anyone point me in the right direction? What category of shoes do I need for jumping, lunging, general flailing about, so I won't mess up my knees and ankles?

Thanks...

Becky, you need to look for 'cross trainers' or neutral cushioned running shoes.
Try a running shop for advice, if you need a cheap option, go to sports direct and look for really cushioned shoes. Try them on, they need to be snug at the sides. Jump around in them. I have New Balance trainers that are like walking on marshmallows. I find Sketchers too cushioned as they do not bounce back (if that makes any sense?).
I hope that helps a little.

I got my adidas from sports direct, the assistant asked me what Sport I was doing in them and when I said aerobics/hiit training he said they were fine. Definitely go in and ask someone in store.
