Music whilst running

I'm a bit of a Luddite so don't own a smart phone, what can I use to listen to whilst I'm running. I would like something that also records my distance and time etc. So something simple for music and distance, any ideas?

IPod nano?

I have a little Sansa Clip mp3 player (£25) for music and started with a Garmin Forerunner 10 (£70 from Wiggle). Both are super simple to use and very hard wearing

Ooh yes the iPod Nano looks just the job! Do you know what generation one is best?
Thanks dibbler but was hoping to use one device.

Er .... A smartphone would be good for that.

Yes but I don't need a phone and they're probably more expensive than nano?

I have a 7th generation IPod nano which has a built in fitness app. I don't use it for recording distance and times as I tend to use an app on my phone when out running. You'd also need iTunes in order to get your music on the device.
