I need to make a Christmas list Grin

I don't want a running manual, I've read loads and am something of an expert Grin but I am obsessed by all things running. Are there any good running stories?

Haruki Murakami's What I Talk About When I Talk About Running is brilliant

JumpandScore · 21/11/2015 19:47

Thank you, I'll have a look at that one. Any others?

I loved Born to Run by Christopher McDougall, great book!

GailTheFish · 21/11/2015 19:58

I second the Murakami book, a great read. I loved Running with the Kenyans by Adharanand Finn too.

I enjoyed The End of the World Running Club. A novel rather than a factual book, but with a running theme.

museumum · 21/11/2015 20:03

Born to run, feet in the clouds, Lizzie hawkers autobiography, Paula radcliffes autobiography, the extra mile by pan Reid.

RunningGingerFreckleyThing · 21/11/2015 20:04

Mud Sweat and Tears by Moire O'Sullivan is meant to be good. I haven't read it but have put it on my list

Snoopadoop · 21/11/2015 20:17

Runnin like a girl.

Snoopadoop · 21/11/2015 20:17

Running like a girl, even... Runnin FGS I really need to read through my own messages. I hope the link works.

BlueChampagne · 21/11/2015 21:52

Or subscription to a running magazine?

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 21/11/2015 21:57

Feet in the Clouds is a great book.

JumpandScore · 21/11/2015 21:59

Not a mag BlueChampagne. They're all a bit basic once you're read some real books on training and the articles rotate and reappear. Once you've read Runner's World for a year or so, you've pretty much seen everything they're going to print.

Born to Run is great, and I really enjoyed Eat and Run by Scott Jurek.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/11/2015 17:17

Another vote for Born to Run and Eat to Run...

Mcnorton · 22/11/2015 17:28

I love the Murakami one, Running like a girl and The way of the runner by Adharanand Finn (abour Japanese running culture )

MrsJolowicz · 24/11/2015 06:35

Yes, the Murakami is wonderful. Now I shall try some of the others mentioned here - thank you! JumpandScore - I absolutely agree about magazines; you get the same yearly cycle of topics, punctuated by photos of lithe golden girls prancing across hilltops with not a red face in sight. This site www.pponline.co.uk/encyc/running.htm# gives what seems like good technical advice.

thedevilinmyshoes · 24/11/2015 12:00

All the above plus my absolute best one: marathon woman by Kathryn Switzer

reallyneedmoresleep · 24/11/2015 23:34

Feet in the clouds is not just a great running book but one of my favourite books about anything, ever.
