This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

Yay! That's my next goal Blathers!

Blatherskite · 05/11/2015 17:40

250 is next for me. It's a looooooonnnnng way off.

cinnamongreyhound · 05/11/2015 17:43

I'm on 84, should do 100th first weekend in March by my calculations.

FiftyNineOhEight · 05/11/2015 21:17

I'm in the 90's now, and more than half way to my volunteer shirt Smile

Blatherskite · 06/11/2015 22:10

Course number 42 tomorrow. Was tempted to go in HGttG fancy dress but I don't fancy running in a dressing gown and I'm too fat for Trillian's catsuit!

FiftyNineOhEight · 06/11/2015 22:50

Blathers fat is not the first word that would spring to mind to describe you!

DH bought the books for teenage DSs last Christmas but we have yet to reel them in Smile.

I am home tomorrow. Breakfast Club tomorrow. Am thinking porridge or toast, but happy to take one for the team Grin

feetheart · 06/11/2015 23:28

I bought DH the CD box set for Christmas - he and DD have been listening to it on the way to music school. DD will drop quotes into general conversation at times which makes DH and I very happy :o

Wet 10th birthday home run for DS and I tomorrow and I'm actually running as he wants to run with me :)
We also have cake which DD and I have spent ages making but we think it's worth it.
We then have to do a dash to MK for DS to compete in his cross country league as that's how he wants to spend his birthday - mad boy!

ThursdayLastWeek · 07/11/2015 07:45

Oh help, I might get blown away today - it's SO WINDY out there!

Blatherskite · 07/11/2015 07:57

Off to get soggy and muddy at the inaugural Rushmere parkrun this morning then have a half marathon this afternoon. I have not picked a good day to be outside for most of it!

FiftyNineOhEight · 07/11/2015 08:07

Yes, wet and windy here as well.

Happy birthday feetboy

ThursdayLastWeek · 07/11/2015 10:48

Good luck Blathers! I don't envy you your HM today.

Well I nearly got blown away, and dragged along by the dog and it was bloody hard work - but I did it Smile

megletthesecond · 07/11/2015 11:20

Good waterproof mascara test today .(boots no.7 stay perfect tubing mascara.). I didn't even pretend to be cool when we had to run into the wind and rain and let out a girly "EEEEEWWWWW!!!!".

Hope everyone is back safe and no one slipped. Brew.

HalleLouja · 07/11/2015 12:03

parkrun number 50. Tick.

Slowest ever time. Tick.

Spent the whole run trying not to fall over. My 9th different parkrun and won't be rushing to Barclay again. Lovely friendly people running it. Just was slower than Tring!!!!

ThursdayLastWeek · 07/11/2015 12:26

Good testing meg!

Congrats on you 50 Halle!

MyBlackCat · 07/11/2015 12:51

Yep it was a very wet, windy and muddy parkrun Smile Despite the conditions I was pleased with my time but unfortunately my official result is wrong Sad my finish token and barcode were scanned the wrong way round and someone else has my result - I replied to my results email so hopefully it can be fixed.

Well done to everyone that ran today.

megletthesecond · 07/11/2015 13:00

This mornings muck and leaves has spurred me on to investigate 'barefoot' trail running trainers. I'm pushing my luck trying to run round corners or through leaves in my current trainers.

ThursdayLastWeek · 07/11/2015 14:44

I have some NB 'minimus' trail shoes meg and I get on with them very well indeed

megletthesecond · 07/11/2015 15:23

Thanks thursday. Spookily enough one of the volunteers was talking about trail shoes and she has the same ones.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/11/2015 16:00

Well done on your 50 HalleLouja!!!

If it were me I would fix it TheBlackCat and as long as you were polite I'm sure most rd's would.

It only rained after our parkrun but it's been raining for a few days so was quite wet underfoot but we have very sandy soil so rarely gets muddy.

Happy birthday minifeetheart!

A slowish but felt very tough one for me, no. 85 done Smile

MyBlackCat · 07/11/2015 16:53

It got fixed cinnamon I was very polite Grin

FiftyNineOhEight · 07/11/2015 23:51

in case anyone is thinking of parkrunning but hasn't quite plucked up the courage, here are some words from the weekly newsletter.

With autumn well and truly underway, you might notice your family and friends looking for new ways to keep fit. As a parkrunner, now is the perfect time to show others the benefits of getting out there to pound the pavement.
If they need any further encouragement, remind them that they’ll have you there every step of the way. If that’s not enough, here’s five reasons to persuade your pals why running 5k with parkrun is the perfect winter workout.

  1. Everyone can do it! There are parkruns operating all over the country and absolutely anyone is welcome to try the course, whether you’re a stroller or a sprinter.
  2. It’s a healthy starting point. Once you’ve found your local parkrun, you’ve got something to train for. Even if you have no previous experience of running you can start by mixing gentle jogs with walking breaks until you’ve built up your stamina to run the whole course.
  3. 5k is an attainable goal. Once you’ve built up your pace, did you know that 5k can take as little as 20 minutes to run? Having the end target in sight will help you push further to beat your personal best.
  4. It’s easier to stay motivated. Small runs soon add up towards your 5k target, so you won’t feel defeated by a mammoth distance. Remember to pat yourself on the back for every parkrun you do, and that sense of pride will help to power you over the finish line.
  5. You meet new people. From volunteers to other participants, parkrun has a wonderful community vibe that welcomes everyone - you might even find a new training buddy.
sweetvparsley · 08/11/2015 08:50

Well done to all of you who completed a parkrun yesterday. I was marshalling and I think the poor event director had a stressful time. At about 8.30 her daughter slipped over and had a suspected broken finger so her husband had to take her off to the hospital.

Thursday night's bonfire was still smoldering and the wind was blowing the smoke in a wide arc right across part of the course which was uncomfortable for the runners. Also, an inexperienced marshall failed to direct the 2 leading runners who were both new to the course so they went the wrong way. Still, we had a great turn out from a local secondary school who were raising money for Children in Need and turned up all dressed in onesies so it wasn't all bad.

FiftyNineOhEight your point 3 did make me laugh. I bet there's quite a few people who would love to be able to put in a 20 minute 5k!

megletthesecond · 08/11/2015 10:21

5k in 20 mins is Shock. I've always been a 5k runner (since my 20's) and I don't think I'll make it to 26 mins Blush.

FiftyNineOhEight · 08/11/2015 10:25

Grin parsley a 30 minute 5K is not within my reach at the moment Grin That was a cut and paste job from the newsletter, not my inspiring words Smile

your prawn sounds a bit like Wacky Races yesterday with injuries, getting lost and fancy dress. Hope the ED's daughter's finger is OK Flowers

FiftyNineOhEight · 08/11/2015 10:31

And anyway, parkrun isn't just the 20 minutes/half an hour/45 minutes you spend running, it's the hour you spend having coffee afterwards catching up with your parkrun friends Smile. I only moved to my town a few years ago and all my local friends are people I've met through parkrun.
