Stepping into our July Walking Challenge - all welcome!

Had a walking challenge thread going in April and June and found it really helpful.

Aim is to walk more than you are walking now!

My target is to actually do 10,000 steps a day EVERY day in July. Fingers crossed dodgy leg holds out.

I have a Fitbit but a pedometer or step counter on a phone would work as well. Or even just an aim of walking for 30 mins every day for instance.

Hi everyone, I have averaged 10,000 steps a day this week but seem to be gaining weight Hmm
It's holiday season here (Cornwall) so no point in driving anywhere for the next six weeks Grin so I may slim down yet

LondonHuffyPuffy · 18/07/2015 12:34

You may be gaining muscle, waily. I find that my weight really fluctuates, even with the walking. Keep at it, 10k a day is really good.

My new Fitbit arrived this morning so today and tomorrow are epic walk days. I have some catching up to do!

CiderwithBuda · 18/07/2015 13:59

Hello.

Happy new Fitbit London!

Have been really rubbish all week bar a 20 min walk on Thursday. But I think I broke the cycle this morning! Managed to get my arse off he sofa and out the door - 3.78 km and 43 active minutes. Hoping to get to 10,000 stps today.

You are probably right London, I am certainly changing shape - I'm actually prepared to wear a mini skirt for the first time in ages as my legs look okay Grin I would like to shed 8 kg though.
I would also like to start running but the last few times I tried it all went wrong very quickly so I have a bit of fear avoidance now Hmm

Wailywailywaily · 18/07/2015 19:08

Only 7000 today, I'd better go and run up and down the stairs a few times

LondonHuffyPuffy · 22/07/2015 22:46

Hi, how is everyone? I've been up and down. Did you wear your miniskirt, waily?

I did a fairly respectable 19,825 on Saturday but then only did 5,805 on Sunday as I was so hungover Blush

Back on track this week
Monday 20,548
Tuesday 21,016
Today 26,259 - I had a day off work so instead of doing the stuff I had planned, like housework, I went on an epic walk. It was good!

I need to get back up to first place on the MN Fitbit group Grin

CiderwithBuda · 22/07/2015 22:59

Hi. I've been rubbish. Feeling exhausted the last few days. I did a twenty minute walk on Monday and forty mins yesterday but nothing today.

I seem to have zero energy. Although wasn't as bad today.

Walking to Tonacise again tomorrow. Will really try to hit 10,000 steps.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 22/07/2015 23:33

Listen to your body, Cider. Don't push yourself if you're not well. Hope you feel better soon xx

Wailywailywaily · 23/07/2015 06:51

Morning! I did wear the mini but wimped out and put leggings under it Grin
I am averaging 7390 this week, but I have had to spend a lot of time in work which slows me down a bit - I normally work from home a lot.

Cider if you feel like that slow down. You may be fighting a virus.

CiderwithBuda · 23/07/2015 12:05

Feeling much better today. Walked to Tonacise 20 mins and did the longer 30 min walk back.

Can't figure out if it was a virus of some sort. Been taking a multi Vit and vit B complex with vit c last few days to see if that helped. Either it did or it was a virus which has passed.

Glad you're feeling better, Cider. Tis weird how these things come and go. My colleague had something similar

yay for mini wearing, waily!

20102 and 153 AMs for me today

CiderwithBuda · 23/07/2015 23:52

11,537 and 51 AMs today.

Hoping for similar tomorrow.

Driving up to London on Saturday - not sure I will manage too many steps.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 25/07/2015 18:20

19093 and 131 AMs yesterday. 13627 and 96 AMs today. Trying to summon the energy to go for another walk to get to 20k today

Have a good time in my fair city, Cider. London is good for walking if you're here for a while

LondonHuffyPuffy · 26/07/2015 19:26

I dragged myself out in the end yesterday and did 21,872 steps, 155 AMs
Today was similar... 21,118 and 173 AMs

Pleased with my efforts this week
150,249 steps
132.29km
1,163 AMs
Smile

Wailywailywaily · 26/07/2015 20:23

13,000 today, unfortunately my daily average for the last week is only 8,000 not a great week.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/07/2015 22:29

Just popping in to say hello, I'm still around, but my efforts have been a bit lamentable of late. I have only done day to day walking, no extra and mostly strolling because it's been warm. And now things get worse because the schools have broken up and I have next to no routine walking (school run and taklng DCs to extra-curricular activities) to be done. Planning to try and get out when I can though.

HeisenbergSaysHello · 26/07/2015 23:59

Bit late to the party but can i join?

Used to walk everywhere before i passed my driving test 2 years ago, now ive got lazy and have also put on almost 2 stone. Need to get back into the habit of waking!

Wailywailywaily · 28/07/2015 08:33

Hi Heisenberg, it's not my thread but I think all are welcome. The reason I am finding it easier to walk than drive recently is that I recently moved to a town where parking costs are crippling and anyway, at this time of year parking is next to impossible. Walking is cheap, relaxing and I have found so many new areas. It has the added benefit of weight loss Grin

Wailywailywaily · 28/07/2015 09:03

Although I have just weighed myself and realise that I may be walking a lot but I also seem to be eating all the pies Hmm
On the plus side my cloths are more comfortable.

CiderwithBuda · 28/07/2015 10:15

Hi Heisenberg and welcome.

I'm rubbish at the moment. Need a rocket up my bum!

London - we were in London Saturday and Sunday only. DH was taking DS and a friend to a pre-season football tournament at the Emirates Stadium. We ended up staying at Brent Cross. Which was our local shopping centre when DH and I started going out together way back in 1988! I went into Oxford Street (yuck) on Saturday to meet a friend. Then Sunday was so wet and miserable I just pottered around Brent Cross Shopping Centre and then went back to hotel with my book. We drove back home on Sunday night.

Had a busy day yesterday but didn't manage a walk. Hoping the weather picks up later and I will go out. I'm a definite fair weather walker! This weather is really making me grumpy!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/07/2015 10:42

I'm rubbish too, thinking of ordering a little stepping machine. Planning a fresh start for August, although it's harder without school runs (DCs have to be dropped by car to holiday clubs on my way to work).

LondonHuffyPuffy · 28/07/2015 10:53

I quite like walking in the rain as there are less tourists on the streets so less crowds to fight through! I did get pretty damp on both Friday night and Sunday day though.

Agree with Oxford St being yuck... I try to avoid where possible. Brent Cross is nice though. Good for pottering.

I am on 516,098 steps for July with three days to go so I think it's safe to say I smashed my target for the month!

CiderwithBuda · 02/08/2015 09:36

Hello. I've been rubbish last week as you may have guessed!

Anyone up for an August thread?

OP posts:
Wailywailywaily · 02/08/2015 10:16

Morning, I'm up for August Smile my average was up to 10000 last week until I forgot my phone yesterday.
It is really difficult for me to find time to do more than 10000 step though so I am considering running, I will carry on considering it for a few more months I think Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/08/2015 15:51

I'm up for August, need to get my mojo back, although I suspect I'm not going to get going properly again till the school holidays are over. 2205 so far today, that's really not great.
