Stepping into our July Walking Challenge - all welcome!

CiderwithBuda · 01/07/2015 08:02

Had a walking challenge thread going in April and June and found it really helpful.

Aim is to walk more than you are walking now!

My target is to actually do 10,000 steps a day EVERY day in July. Fingers crossed dodgy leg holds out.

I have a Fitbit but a pedometer or step counter on a phone would work as well. Or even just an aim of walking for 30 mins every day for instance.

Hello all , how is everyone doing ?

My day off today and I have done 17064 and 113 active minutes . I am pleased with that .

LondonHuffyPuffy · 06/07/2015 23:21

19005 and 155 AMs for me. A good start to the week for both of us, Howlong

LondonHuffyPuffy · 07/07/2015 20:57

18,422 today, 122 AMs

The longer distances are getting easier

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/07/2015 21:15

I'm doing really badly! Which is why I haven't posted for a few days. Just been too busy with other things.

Approx 10, 9, 9 and 8k steps the last 4 days. Oops. I'm not being lazy as such though, I just haven't had time. I was going out in the evenings once DH was home from work, but to be honest, once a week or so is fine, but in general I'd rather be at home with the DCs till they go to bed, which is about 9.30. So, I need to think again.

CiderwithBuda · 07/07/2015 21:38

I'm not ignoring you all. Honest. I tried to post yesterday but failed.

Greetings from Greece!

Went off plan completely from last Wednesday. Busy packing, shopping, organising, going to end of school year stuff etc. Flew here on Saturday.

Got up at 7.30 yesterday to go to gym. Got there to find it doesn't open till 9am! So did a walk into the woods. It was lovely but hard.

Hit 10,00 steps for the day.

Too tired to get up to repeat walk this mornings so went to gym this evening. Had printe off a treadmill workout which was 45 minutes. Thought it would be do-able. Got a bit of s shock!!!

I did do Aqua fit this morning too. Hoping it will offset the food and drink!

Those are still good numbers, Whoknows. Most people clock up less than 5k a day. Don't be too hard on yourself. Totally understandable to want to spend time with your kids.

Cider you're on holiday! I admire your dedication! You've earned some Wine and cheese Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/07/2015 23:17

Thanks London Smile

Howlongtillbedtime · 08/07/2015 07:10

Morning all, 12609 and 56 active minutes . I was disappointed but then I remembered it is a still a sight better than I was doing before I started this .

I am glad to see you both back too . I thought you had run away !

Wailywailywaily · 08/07/2015 07:29

12,600 steps, 6.6 miles yesterday. It's building slowly and definitely getting easier.
Not sure I'd be so committed while on holiday Cider

Wailywailywaily · 08/07/2015 22:01

15,000 steps, woohoo!

LondonHuffyPuffy · 08/07/2015 22:26

15660 and only 92 AMs for me today. Tube strike in London, was looking forward to my normal walk home when DH suggested dinner out. Bah! Both diet and walking blown because he insisted on getting the bus for the last leg of the journey home (he's effortlessly slim. Yes I know I should LTB).

Howlongtillbedtime · 12/07/2015 22:13

Hello all , where is everyone ?

I did 13122 yesterday with 39 active minx and today was 16397 and 104 active minutes .

More minutes tomorrow!

LondonHuffyPuffy · 12/07/2015 23:13

The tube strike ought to have meant good walking days but I ended up driving DH to work on Thursday. I spent 5 hours travelling that day! Drive, walk, train, walk, work, walk, hospital appointment, walk, train, walk, drive. Shit day!

But I pulled it back this weekend and did 22,116 and 169 AMs yesterday and a whopping 27,412 and 214 AMs today. Total for the week is 140,078 steps, 123.3km and 1,032 AMs. Really, really pleased with that Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/07/2015 23:44

All over the place for me this week. Friday was good with 14797 steps, yesterday was also good with 16,585. However disaster struck yesterday evening, DS had a fall and broke his collar bone, so all plans for today were abandoned in favour of a restful day at home, with a total of 8,500 mainly from a stroll round the supermarket, taking DD to her swimming lesson and a walk to the allotment this evening.

Howlongtillbedtime · 13/07/2015 06:32

Ouch whoknows that sounds painful . I hope you all managed some sleep .

london those totals are brilliant, I really need to have a better week this week . I had a good walk over Hampstead Heath yesterday which I enjoyed and today the plan is the gym this morning and then a walk later with a friend so it should be a good day .

cider I hope your foot is holding up and you are getting out and about .

Have a good one everyone .

LondonHuffyPuffy · 13/07/2015 22:38

Oh no Whoknows... hope he's ok today? And you, obviously!

Thanks Howlong. I think I'm obsessed! 21,057 today, 160 AMs. We're planning a trip to LA in October, so I want to be a lean, mean fighting machine by then. Trying to pluck up the courage to start running.

cider hope you're ok? How was the holiday?

Have a good week, everyone

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/07/2015 22:46

Thanks, he's not too bad, some loss of independence though, he needs help dressing and I'm having to carry his bag to school (he's 11 and goes on his own, luckily I still follow behind with younger DD). He broke his wrist a couple of years ago and that was worse, needed pinning and numerous visits to the fracture clinic.

A rather low total again today for me, 8065. Work and been out this evening but only to somewhere approx 100m from my front door, so only school runs really.

Howlongtillbedtime · 14/07/2015 06:35

15977 yesterday and 92 active mins . I am one of the very few people that like Mondays as it is my day off .

Back to work today and it is a very tedious course all day so not a lot of moving about today .

Good luck everyone today.

CiderwithBuda · 14/07/2015 08:58

Hello! I'm back. Got home yesterday. First load of washing is on! Not enjoying the dull, cloudy weather.

Sadly my dedication didn't last on holiday and all willpower went out of the window. I did Aqua aerobics every morning for 30 mins, otherwise it was one walk, one gym visit, one lunchtime dash to pharmacy in marina and one session of 500 steps of walking in the pool over the week. Lots of food and lots and lots of wine. Lots of lying on sun lounger reading. Gained 4.5 lbs.

Worth it though! It was lovely.

WhoKnows - poor DS. Sounds painful.

London - I cannot believe the amount of steps you do! I don't think I could ever get to 27,000 in a day! If you want to start running I recommend Couchto5k. I got to week 7 but my knees didn't like it. I'm too heavy still but am hoping to give it a go again. I have 13 stone in my head as a target to start it again. Two stone to shift to get there. I found it really changed my shape. Even though I didn't lose much weight while doing it people said I looked like I had lost loads.

HowLong - foot ok at the moment. Fingers crossed!

Welcome back cider Greece is still standing then ? We are going to Crete in the summer and I am hoping all will be OK there. Sounds like you had a fab time and the weight you put on will soon be gone , the quicker it goes on the quicker it comes off .

I am back from my boring course and off for a walk to the school and back and then we are tackling the tip that is my son's bedroom . I may be some time .......

london I have been doing couch to 5k and it is really good , I prefer the interval stuff though , I am at wk8 now and I don, t want to do it any more . Running solidly for 28 mins is a bit boring ( and knackering)

LondonHuffyPuffy · 15/07/2015 21:53

I have downloaded the C25K app, just psyching myself up to give it a go!

16962 and 130 AMs yesterday, 20527 and 145 AMs today.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 15/07/2015 21:56

Oh and welcome home, cider. Glad you had a good time.

How's your DS, Whoknows?

CiderwithBuda · 16/07/2015 09:57

Greece still standing where we were HowLong. But it is a big resort so we were very cushioned. Hopefully things will have settled down by the time you go.

I have been absolutely rubbish since I got back. Still in holiday mode. DH is away so I have been getting up late and finding excuses not to walk. Taking DS into town this morning for an eye test. Will def walk this afternoon.

Haven't been doing my stretches either so leg starting to play up again.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/07/2015 22:06

Tue 6500
Wed 10100
Today 17400 Grin - that's more like it.

DS is doing well, he's been at school all week, they're in Year 6 so it's all play and no work in this last week or so and he would have hated to miss any of it. Still in a lot of pain and with very limited movement in the arm though.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 17/07/2015 10:21

Well done, Whoknows! And good to hear that DS is recovering. Hope he helas up soon.

I have managed to lose my FitBit Sad Sad Sad Sad

It fell off my wrist somewhere/ somehow last night. I've just bought another one from Amazon which will arrive tomorrow but that means I won't be recording any steps today.

Can I take a day off?!

I'm going to lost my top spot on the MN Fitbit group Angry
