I love my gadgets and have been looking for something that i can use while excercising.I run walk and cycle and want something that i can use for all of these to calculate distance, speed and how many steps taken and also want something with gps. There is a fair bit of choice out there and i was wondering what you use/would recommend?I have an iphone 5 and an ipad so i would need to be able to use it with those and im not limited by budget either.

I have a jawbone up band for steps and use mapmyfitness free app on my phone and also myfitness pal for logging food. They all interlink or you can use them independently. I use Map myfitness for cycling and it's faily accurate with distance and calorie burn. Dh uses a heart monitor and has compared for calibration purposes.

I'd get a Garmin with a foot pod. I have a 910XT (and swim, bike, run) and love it

Why do you want to know speed etc? So that you can see what you have done, or so that you can use the data to improve at the time?

So the Map My Run app will give you distance/time/average speed, but it isn't nearly so good for giving you real-time information (e.g. if you're doing interval training, or trying to keep to X pace to beat your PB).

I have the Garmin 920xt (I do triathlons) and whilst I would wholeheartedly recommend it, if you just want to look back at the day and say 'I ran 6 miles at x pace and took Y steps' it is overkill, even if money is no object, imo. It's also quite big so less suited to wearing all the time, if you have little wrists like me.

I have a Garmin 610 which I love. It's a few years old now and going very strong.

It is gps based so gives fairly accurate time/distance splits. When I first started running I had a Nike + thing which was crap. Pedometer based things aren't very accurate for running Ime.
