Phone while running

Thetallestsunflower · 21/04/2015 11:15

Following on from an earlier post about treadmill running, I would like to begin to run outdoors. I would like to take my phone with me so I can track my run, listen to music and obviously for safety.
What do you outdoor runners do with your phones while you run? My friend said she just holds hers but I would find that annoying.
I need either a arm or waist band I think -can anyone recommend one which doesn't cost the earth. I have very thin arms and a narrow waist so I need one which goes quite small-maybe a child or teenager one would be best if they do them?
Thanks

I had an armband and hated it. I had a waistband and hated it (it rode up). I've managed to get both shorts and capris with a pocket big enough for my S3. The capris are Nike Filament and the shorts are Adidas Response. HTH :)

I hold mine, you just get used to it Smile

I have a sexy running bumbag thing.

BlueChampagne · 21/04/2015 13:42

Bum bag thing which also takes a water bottle and keys. I can't use my arms properly if I'm holding something. I have an Addidas one which really will fit waist sizes from about 20 to 44 inches (just measured it).

Some running leggings have a zip pocket in the back which is just big enough for a phone, or keys, but maybe not both!

Stretchy fabric sleeve with a pouch that phone, keys, bank card etc all fit into comfortably. I don't even notice I'm wearing it (unlike the more rigid armband thing with a velcro fastener which I didn't get on with at all).

Thetallestsunflower · 21/04/2015 16:53

Hi
The sleeve or the bum bag sound a good idea-what make are they please/where did you purchase them.
Many thanks xx

I got the sleeve thingy on Amazon. I think it cost around a fiver plus postage. I don't think I can link to it as I'm on my phone but if you do a search for "Ronhill stretch arm pocket" you should be able to find them.

iwantgin · 22/04/2015 20:12

have a selection of phone holders.

My armband is quite good. It's fairly small though and only just holds mine, Galaxy Mini. It stays put on my arm- no jiggling.

I also have a slimline stretchy belt - v lightweight and good for phone, and keys, pack of tissues.

Then two proper running belts- a big, manly one which holds a sports bottle. I find it a little cumbersome to run in. Also have a more wearable Workplay bag.

Couldn't hold my phone whilst running -I like to have free arms.

Flingingmelon · 22/04/2015 20:16

There's loads of ones under a fiver on eBay and Amazon. Get the one with the pouch for you house keys tooWink

museumum · 22/04/2015 20:17

In summer I stuff it into my Capris pocket but it does get sweaty - most of the year running jacket pocket or I have a very very lightweight gilet I can wear unless it's very warm.

Thetallestsunflower · 22/04/2015 22:18

i have ordered a waist belt of amazon as I think the arm option would annoy me. It was only £9.99 so worth a try . Thanks for your help

I only buy running leggings with a zip pocket on the bum, currently wearing cheapo ones from DW, fits my phone, keys, sweets, in fact I once shoved a small water bottle in there! The arm ones make me feel lopsided!

HelenF350 · 22/04/2015 22:34

Another vote for running bum bag here. Much better than an arm or wristband. I have 2, one also holds two small water bottles for longer runs.

GraysAnalogy · 22/04/2015 22:36

I put a waterproof cover on it and stick it in my bra Blush

GraysAnalogy · 22/04/2015 22:36

Well I used to, can't run anymore

HelenF350 · 22/04/2015 22:36

I got my running bum bags online from sports direct. They were both less than a tenner.

girlsyearapart · 22/04/2015 22:42

Be careful with the down the bra option I knackered my phone doing that after it got sweaty... The waterproof cover has to be very secure!

LavazzaLover · 22/04/2015 22:49

Karrimor belt. About £4 in Sports Direct.

fredfredgeorgejnr · 22/04/2015 22:57

You could buy a little phone for the emergency contact side of things - www.tesco.com/direct/tesco-mobile-nokia-106-black/156-6028.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=156-6028 much less annoying in the hand than a smartphone or fits easily in a running tight pocket.

But that assumes you're not wanting to carry a phone simply to check mumsnet half way around.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 23/04/2015 07:53

I use an armband which I love but it rubs against bare skin so now I've got the ronhill arm sleeve thing linked above to wear under itConfused I bought the ronhill thing to use instead but it seems really small and tight to squeeze my phone in.

For a long time I used a small waist belt but I prefer not to have something around my middle.

I absolutely couldn't carry my phone. I can't carry anything when running, it upsets my running style.
