A device like MapMyWalk but not an app - does it exist?

I currently use MapMyWalk as I do a lot of walking to monitor distance and calories used. I also add in activities like Pilates and yoga, and I like that when I'm pushing the pram it takes that into account and adds in the extra calories burned. The only issue I have is the amount of battery life it uses up on my iPhone - if I use it a few times in a day my battery usually dies by mid afternoon. Is there anything I can buy that will do the same thing? A pedometer wouldn't work because it wouldn't take hills or the pram into account - and I've read the wrist ones won't even work when pushing a pram as your arm isn't moving up and down? Any ideas? A GPS based fitness tracker. Do you have more requirements for what you'd like?

Just something that will monitor distance using GPS, so it will take altitude into account, that I can enter other exercise into, and that ideally has a 'pushing stroller' setting. Basically MMW but not on my phone. Would a Fitbit do all of that? Thanks for replying.

The fitbit surge would I think. It would also track the effort by the heart rate, which would give you a better indication of the impact of the pram etc.

It's pretty pricey, the other option would be a dedicated garmin with an HR monitor, which would probably be half the price, but would still mean you having to upload it to somewhere else.

Have you tried following the advice about minimising battery use? There's not a great deal you can do with something that's using GPS but if you don't have the screen turned off that will help a bit.

Thanks - yes I do all of those things. I literally cannot do anything else whilst it's on - if I try to text, even with 50% battery showing, the phone shuts down. It's a shame because otherwise it's a great app.

I've just looked again and only the very expensive Garmin has GPS :(

You don't need to use a fitness tracker, a regular GPS running watch meets your needs more I'd say, you don't want regular fitness tracking. Although a clip based one rather than a watch based one will work while running if you wanted to track daily movement aswell. Something like the fitbit one or zip.

But just a garmin watch will do better, something like www.handtec.co.uk/garmin-forerunner-405cx-with-heart-rate-monitor-usb-ant-stick-noh-010-n0658-30.html if you also have a computer will do everything and more for your actual running parts.

I looked at the Forerunner but I didn't like the lack of Bluetooth. In the end I've gone for a Fitbit One as I can sync it with MMW, clip it rather than wear it so it'll pick up the pushchair walks and it got good reviews.
