A device like MapMyWalk but not an app - does it exist?

I currently use MapMyWalk as I do a lot of walking to monitor distance and calories used. I also add in activities like Pilates and yoga, and I like that when I'm pushing the pram it takes that into account and adds in the extra calories burned. The only issue I have is the amount of battery life it uses up on my iPhone - if I use it a few times in a day my battery usually dies by mid afternoon. Is there anything I can buy that will do the same thing? A pedometer wouldn't work because it wouldn't take hills or the pram into account - and I've read the wrist ones won't even work when pushing a pram as your arm isn't moving up and down? Any ideas? Thanks Smile

A GPS based fitness tracker. Do you have more requirements for what you'd like?

Just something that will monitor distance using GPS, so it will take altitude into account, that I can enter other exercise into, and that ideally has a 'pushing stroller' setting. Basically MMW but not on my phone. Would a Fitbit do all of that? Thanks for replying.

The fitbit surge would I think. It would also track the effort by the heart rate, which would give you a better indication of the impact of the pram etc.

It's pretty pricey, the other option would be a dedicated garmin with an HR monitor, which would probably be half the price, but would still mean you having to upload it to somewhere else.

Thanks - the Vivofit looks like it will fit the bill Smile

Have you tried following the advice about minimising battery use? There's not a great deal you can do with something that's using GPS but if you don't have the screen turned off that will help a bit.

Thanks - yes I do all of those things. I literally cannot do anything else whilst it's on - if I try to text, even with 50% battery showing, the phone shuts down. It's a shame because otherwise it's a great app.

I've just looked again and only the very expensive Garmin has GPS :(

You don't need to use a fitness tracker, a regular GPS running watch meets your needs more I'd say, you don't want regular fitness tracking. Although a clip based one rather than a watch based one will work while running if you wanted to track daily movement aswell. Something like the fitbit one or zip.

But just a garmin watch will do better, something like www.handtec.co.uk/garmin-forerunner-405cx-with-heart-rate-monitor-usb-ant-stick-noh-010-n0658-30.html if you also have a computer will do everything and more for your actual running parts.

Thanks everyone Smile

I looked at the Forerunner but I didn't like the lack of Bluetooth. In the end I've gone for a Fitbit One as I can sync it with MMW, clip it rather than wear it so it'll pick up the pushchair walks and it got good reviews.
