Just back from the gp, who prescribed 10 days of antibiotics. Race will be on day 5. She said I probably shouldn't do my first ever 10km race. I'm gutted. Sad

It would be really stupid to do it, wouldn't it, especially since its at 1.30pm and forecast is for a warm day. If it makes it a less stupid, I'm a slow plodder, so it's likely to take me 70 mins in the whole of my health, and I could walk bits. And I'll be at a wedding on Friday where I know no one, so I could slope off to bed and rest .

Did I mention it's my 10k cherry, and I'm gutted?

If it was half marathon I'd say absolutely don't do it. 10k yeah go for it if you feel ok the day before.

That's more hopeful than I was expecting! I was texting my bootcamp instructor this morning and he said pretty much the same with the added suggestion of kale smoothies, bleurgh so there may be hope (and painkillers!)

How are you feeling. You could try gargling diluted tcp.

EdithDickie · 09/04/2015 09:13

Hope you're feeling better. I think I would give it a go but take it very easy.

KanyesVest · 09/04/2015 10:34

I'm feeling a bit better this morning, thanks for asking. I'm not sure if it's because ibuprofen is working better for me, or if I'm actually improving, but either way, it's positive. I'm going to leave it til the last minute to decide, I think. We're only an hour away from the race venue, so I'll see how I am on the day.

God, how my life has changed...2 years ago I couldn't run for the bus, now I'm fretting about being too sick to do a 10k!!

How are you today OP??

KanyesVest · 12/04/2015 21:20

I'm still really unwell Sad I didn't even try the run, walking is jarring my head and ears, so anything at all I would have managed, and it wouldn't have been much, would have been miserable.

but thanks for asking!

You poor thing, hope you are feeling better soon.

billywhitechocolate · 12/04/2015 21:56

Oh how disappointing for you. Well get better soon and find another 10k to aim for! Do you have another one in mind?

KanyesVest · 12/04/2015 22:18

Yes, Billy, yesterday was to be the first of three over the summer that I was going to do for one of the charities I work with. There's a huge women only and guys with balloon boobs 10km on the June bank holiday weekend that I'm going to do come hell or high water, and another local 10km that I'll do in August. I'll have to try to find another one in between or early September. I'm going to do a double run at Parkrun hopefully the last run of the month, just to prove to myself that I can do it!

xcellent! ! Great to book into races to keep you going.

I did race #3 yesterday out of 16 I am hoping to do this year. Mix of 5/10k and HM.

gonetrekking · 12/04/2015 22:58

Good luck OP and hope you feel better soon!
