Plantar Faciitis

I'm a long time runner...done marathons, halfs, 10ks etc every weekend and stuff. Member of running club.

Got bitten by PF last May and not run since. I've done the stretching exercises etc, rested it, and here we are, March 2015 and still in pain.

Am I ever going to run again or do I need to accept that those days are gone?

Anyone else had this and got over it and run as well as before it struck?

PF is a persistent nightmare so I sympathise.

I'm not much of a runner compared to you so please feel free to ignore, but have you seen a podiatrist or physio?

I had persistent PF & neither exercises nor a steroid injection worked. I finally went to see a physio who has a special interest in foot problems & was fitted for custom made orthotic insoles. I have a pair for ordinary shoes & a pair specifically for wearing in my runners. They weren't cheap but were totally worth it. The plantar fasciitis completely cleared up & I can run without pain.

thanks Drama. I've not seen a physio except for the running club one who diagnosed me and gave me the stretching exercises.

I was thinking of pursuing the steroid injections route next, but it sounds as though you found it a waste of time, so I'll hold off that for now.

If you decide to try the steroid injection, I'll just warn you it was the single most painful experience of my life - including childbirth Grin.

My mum and I have both had PF and both conquered it through specially made insoles and good advice about which shoes to wear and ditch. Neither of us runners though.

I had similar -PF after 2nd marathon. I got custom made orthotics from a podiatrist - not cheap but made an instant difference and I was able to run again.

Drama... I heard about the pain on the runners' grapevine. I'll deffo give that a miss.

Do you massage it or roll it on a piece of dialing? you could try acupuncture too. I've had this for years and it is persistent.

thenightsky · 07/03/2015 23:17

podiatrist sounds like the way to go then.

I'll not abandon hope yet!
