What's your resting heart rate?

My resting heart rate is usually around 52-54bpm which apparently makes me super fit! Wink

out of curiosity what's yours and does it reflect your fitness levels?

Mine is between 60-62 which is pretty good I think. I run 4 times a week and currently in marathon training so hopefully that reflects my fitness well.

Suzannewithaplan · 07/02/2015 14:16

around 46
partly because I do a fair bit of endurance type training but even when I dont it's on the low side so I think it's partly the way I am.

Also have quite low blood pressure

interesting , I'm not even particularly fit! I've only just recently started the couch 2 5k programme which is hard!

reduced rhr in response to training is correlated with improved cardio vascular fitness but I'm not sure that having a naturally low pulse means you have a high level of cardio vascular fitness when in an untrained state.

There are many other adaptations which take place in response to endurance training and they all work together to make you more efficient.

  1. is that bad?
wfrances · 07/02/2015 16:06

mine is 120 bpm.
my sinus node doesnt work properly.

loveableshoulder · 07/02/2015 16:13

Mine is under 60 too. I'm hardly.in.the peak of physical fitness but do run 3 or 4 times a week plus other activities. I was surprised when I took it, I.must admit.

Suzannewithaplan · 07/02/2015 16:15

as you get older your maximum heart rate declines by on average 1bpm per year irrespective of how fit or unfit you are so if your rhr is low then you have more spare capacity as you get older

MuttonCadet · 07/02/2015 16:17

48-52, but I'm not fit, I have low bp.

bigTillyMint · 07/02/2015 16:17

Mine is around 50. I am reasonably fit for my age (50), but I have high Blood PressureConfused

Sirzy · 07/02/2015 16:23

64

sleepwhenidie · 08/02/2015 09:28

Mine is 50-54, I am 42, very fit with low BP. I'd second what Suzanne says about it not necessarily being an indication of fitness in itself -though, some people are just like that naturally.

Suzannewithaplan · 08/02/2015 09:32

Im naturally on a go slow :o

DropYourSword · 08/02/2015 09:33

Just counted...74bpm.

sleepwhenidie · 09/02/2015 11:04

I think that people who are fit tend to have lower resting heart rates but the opposite isn't necessarily true Smile. The true test of fitness wrt heart rate is recovery time.
