I've just joined David Lloyd and am determined to eat better and lose weight (finally!)

They offer a lot of classes and I'm going to get child are and do a few...

What are the best ones for weight loss?

One of the main things for weight loss is that you actually turn up - so from that point of view, the ones you enjoy!

Some people swear by cardio-based stuff, some by weights, some by a combination. What sort of thing appeals to you?

I would do a combination. Look to do at least one cardio based class and one weight based class. I do Kettlebells on a Monday and Metafit (strictly not just cardio, but definately gets my heart rate up and out of breath) on a Friday.

As pootle says anything that appeals to you so you will turn up.

If they do them and you are reasonably fit and healthy, try Grit (plyo, cardio and strength) and Insanity. They are hard but if you want results you do need to sweat. Body Attack and Body Pump are less intense but also effective. I also enjoy boot camp type circuit classes.

Agree with kettlebells, I hate them but they work!

I get really good results with a spin/tone class for full on cv then weights and toning after.

I would try a variety to see what you actually enjoy then you're more likely to stick at it. I found once the weight started to come off, that was time to think about specific toning/body shaping exercise. I now do a mix of Insanity (HIIT) , Spin, jogging & outdoor cycling and trying to find time to fit in a weight/resistance session and can see a massive difference in my shape to this time last year with combined 3.5st weight loss & exercise.

I'm no expert, but I think I get best results from circuits/bootcamp style classes, which at my gym anyway include cardio, strength and "explosive" stuff (is that plyo?). I need to get back on this actually...

dementedpixie · 06/02/2015 09:33

I do a mix of body pump, zumba, powerhoop and body attack

As others have said, the ones that work best are what you actually go to. Try them out, see what you enjoy, and stick with it. If you're dreading going, you'll start missing classes. If you're looking forward to it, you'll do as many a week as you can
