Just out of curiosity, if you measure these things, how many steps do you take a day ?

I was so much fitter when on maternity leave when I had time...

If I walk the school run, I can easily exceed 12,000 steps a day. If I don't, a typical day would be under 6,000. So I'm trying to think if ways to up it when DD transfers to secondary.

confusedalways · 19/01/2015 18:40

Monday to Friday I hit around 20,000 weekends a lot less as I don't go for a run. I try to always at least get to 10,000 by having an evening walk or something.

Ememem84 · 19/01/2015 18:54

Typical day for me is around 6000.

I'm trying I do more.

CiderwithBuda · 19/01/2015 18:57

I have no idea but it will be low. Keep meaning to measure. Will hunt out pedometer and track tomorrow.

didireallysaythat · 19/01/2015 19:12

I measured today. I drive to school, go to work, eat lunch at my desk, drive home, cook, clean, read stories and not much else because it's 10pm by then. 3900 so far. Dr. Google says the average American does 5900.

I want to start doing something. I NEED to start doing something ! I'm wondering about 15 minutes on my bike around the village once the kids are in bed. Every little helps....

Confused how far or long are you going to get to 20000 steps. I guess that's 10 miles or more ? I'm not I've got enough hours in the day....

On work days its usually around 15,000. If I'm just doing the school run then it's usually around 10,000. If it falls just under then I stand up and step on the spot to get it to 10,000!

didireallysaythat · 19/01/2015 19:32

I clearly have the most stationery job out there ! I can't get steps in with the school run (drive to the next village and then onto work), can't easily do any at lunch time as I have to eat at my desk, then pick up at 5:45 is the reverse of the morning. I'd like to restart c25k but I think I need to lose a stone first, plus get the kids to bed earlier....

I run for 5k I'm a nanny so my job involves lots of running around and being active to which helps!

didireallysaythat · 20/01/2015 07:25

confused I can see how you rack up the steps - managed another 1000 in the evening. I. Not sure I'll get to your levels but first things first I'm thinking 5000 must be doable ?

Definitely I find even little things add up like nipping upstairs to get something when I think of it rather than getting numerous things at once. Or walking to the next tube stop rather then getting on at the closest.

FuckYouKatieHopkins · 20/01/2015 22:56

My job is stationary - it's just that I'm lucky enough for it to be within walking distance. When I worked from home my count was never more then 12,000 on n average day.

VivaLeBeaver · 20/01/2015 22:58

Weekends it's anywhere between 10,000 and 20,000.

When I'm at work it's anywhere between 3000 and 7000. Though I try to push it up towards 10000 by jogging on the spot in the kitchen late at night!

didireallysaythat · 21/01/2015 12:26

Gavd DH the pedometer today - its his non exercise day but I suspect he will still do double what I manage. I'll report back. Oh and interestingly I hadn't thought about weekends being better - I shall see if that's true for me.

I'm hoping all this will help me realise that I don't get enough exercise - I know I don't but numbers help. And then I shall sit down and figure how to fix this. I will feel more justified in telling DH I need an hour away on one or two evenings to try and fix things !

100% not enough. I've just ordered a pedometer from eBay and I'm going to do my best to hit 10,000 this week.

didireallysaythat · 25/01/2015 19:56

ourglass let me know how you get on. I'm aiming for 5000 steps one day this week. DH managed 7000 on a non exercise day....

I use the 'moves' app. Really useful

ourglass · 25/01/2015 20:31

Sunshine I tried moves but my phone in my pocket just pisses me off! Great app though. Hoping to have better luck with pedometer!
