Quick question pls! Exercise and PMT/period?

So, I'm a new year exercise newbie Grin.

I've got into a great routine for the past three weeks that has been bloody life changing. I've been doing a combination of gym (cardio/weights) and some classes (yoga, body combat, dance) 4-5 times a week and have been feeling brilliant. Have been eating really well, too, and generally feeling great.

However, I suffer from really bad PMT (cramps, terrible moods, zero energy). My period is due in the next couple of days and I feel awful. I ate loads of crap yesterday. I retched over my morning porridge and had white toast and jam instead and it all went down hill from there! I have woken up today feeling like shit - exhausted, stomach pains, foul mood and tearful. I have yoga at 10am and am determined to go...but just wondered..what do others do when you have PMT/bad periods? Do you exercise through it? Does exercise make you feel better? Or do you rest? What exercise is best when you've got PMT cramps? And how on earth do you manage the awful sugar/carb cravings?!

Thanks for any advice offered.

Bump!

I went to yoga. It definitely helped my mood, but it was soooo hard. Poses. I had no problem with last week felt really difficult.

Any advice welcome. Might ask my yoga teacher next week, too.

If I felt shit, I'd rest. Don't beat yourself up about it - hopefully you'll be back to normal in a few days. No harm in asking your yoga teacher; you could mention it next time you see your GP too.

Thanks, Blue.

I suppose I feel a bit disappointed that for maybe 7 days out of each month I might feel so bad that I cant exercise at all. Just sets me back a bit with my routine, which is working really well the rest of the time. Yoga was such a struggle this morning, honestly!

I've been to the GP a few times over the years about my period, and as smears/ultrasounds etc have come back normal and I cant take the pill for health reasons, they just sort of say 'get on with it'. I'm taking evening primrose oil every day now and trying to eat really well to combat cravings, but its really hard.

Thanks again x
