Spinning class - 1st time - what to expect?

I thought I saw a similar thread a while ago but have lost it.
Yes, this evening on a stationery bike - 45 min classs. I usually ride a lot but since Christmas for lots of reasons it's tailed off to not a lot, and am feeling v unfit.
So I bring a bottle of water, a towel, trainers. Is the v loud music and shouty instructor for real? How do I increase resistance on the bike?
Any tips please?
tia.

Instructor person doing the class should show you how to adjust the bike for you turning the resitance up is usually a knob on the frame below the handlebars.

Have you seen 'Run, fat boy, run!'? He goes to a spinning class and falls down the stairs afterwards

here:

and here:

I found that scarily accurate!

Oh excellent. Oh thank you very much! I AM RunFatBoyRun and this is indeed what will come to pass. Grin

I think I jumped down the stairs one at a time, both feet together after my first spin class Grin

I don't think anyone really enjoys spin classes but the exercise you get is unparalleled IMO. I like running etc but I never push myself as hard as a spinning class pushes me!

Definitely take the first half of the class easy on the resistance. Going hell for leather with heavy legs when you're not used to it will be no fun and you won't cope!

Enjoy the speed and music and the standing up amd sitting down. When youbfeel more confident amd get to know your limits over the duration of the class, you can start to challenge yourself amd get more of a sweat on.

The things i like about spinning are the way that you are in control of how hard you work, and its just you and the bike!

And and and! Flipping fat fingers on phone!

I...can..just...about...type...Grin

IT was awful in a brilliant way. Took it easy for the first half as you said stardust, and was the fat boy at the back. Eventually got a groove and used the bike resistance to test myself, whilst everyone else was over the hill and far away. It's nothing like riding a bike.

We pay these people to torture us. What does that say about us exactly?

Booked in for next week.Smile Thanks for the tips!
