Need to get in shape but I have a bad back

So I want to loose 2 stone and time up, my belly thighs and hips need to shrink.

My osteopath advised Pilates and swimming would be best, I know shred works but it also damages my back.

Is swimming and Pilates really enough?

How about starting with those and then doing more vigorous exercise when you get stronger? The weight loss will also help your back. I'd recommend getting a pedometer and aiming for 10k steps a day.
I need to get fit again and also have a bad back so will be doing similar. Also have a 4 week ds so will be taking him for lots of long and fast walks!
