Night running - what lights?

Ive got a heavy old head torch that bobs around too much & a run-of-the-mill hand torch that is ok but not heavy & bulky and bright enough on its own. Any suggestions for running lights most welcome plus should I get something (reflective ankle/wrist bands?) so drivers coming from behind can see me?

I'm in a semi-rural area without street lighting & mainly on pavements but they're often quite narrow & I do have to dip onto the road sometimes.

Phoebe, I dont run in the dark but I do cycle in the evening, ime high viz clothing is as crucial as lights when it comes to being seen!

Head lamp ,I have energiser one got it in argos.

Also use red flashing armband

I cycle in the dark too but pretty set up for that with high viz jacket (weird material too noisy for running!) & 2 x front and back for static & flashing lights.
Like the idea of the armband light which I could use for both and will check out the argos one thanks

I have a Panther Vision powercap - it's brilliant - a black anonymous baseball cap with v powerful lights under the peak which light up the road really well. I use a flashing arm band too.

High-viz vest and flashing arm and ankle bands. The hat that Pleaseputyourshoeson mentions is great too. If you are semi-rural I would also suggest a tube of pepper spray or mace, but I'm not sure if they sell it in the UK.

Headtorches are more stable if they have a strap that goes over your head, as well as around it. Also, if you wear some sort of bandana or hat (not a peaked one as it will block the beam), it stops it slipping on your sweat. It also helps to have one that you can adjust the angle of the beam.

All that said, I know some very good trail runners who use a hand held torch as they feel it gives them better flexibility on beam direction, so its a matter of choice.
