Hello!
I'm about to peel myself off the sofa to do week 2 run 2. It's pretty windy out there!

I use the Get Running app - it was £1.99 but cheaper than the rest of the kit I've bought so far!

Any recommendations for cheap running shoes?

Fatlegs · 09/01/2015 22:22

Hi, can I join aswell?? Done my w1r1 tonight, and soooo pleased with myself for pulling my finger out, and finally doing itSmile I too have the app which I used 2 years ago, and worked great, but that time I do e it on the treadmill, this time though, I'm gonna do it out on the roads, which is gonna be a lot harder, but I now have no time for the gymand would rather spend the money in the baby I really hope to keep up with this, and am hoping this tread will keep the motivation up

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 10/01/2015 09:25

Hi fatlegs Smile. Well done for cracking on.

Last night DH announced that he has booked to take part in a charity 10k in the summer. He plays racquet sports and is moderately fit but running is not something he does. I said I'd go out training with him. I haven't run properly since Oct ish (a couple of short sessions in Nov and a couple in Dec) and so as I said below, I was going to start at wk4 to get a feel for where I am but with DH wanting to start, we'll start from scratch.

funchum8am · 10/01/2015 10:35

I tried the NHS app but much preferred Get Running once I got that.

Well done everyone!

IKYTWTLYA · 10/01/2015 11:12

Was it here that someone recommended the book Running Lile A Girl? I'm quite enjoying it!

Lilliput · 10/01/2015 11:13

Week 2 run 1done!!!
I also dragged my nearly 12 year old dd out in the wind/rain/sleet/snow! She was very good company Grin

CruCru · 10/01/2015 14:37

Hi all!

I have been away (chesty cough and general laziness) but I got a Garmin 220 for Christmas and have been inspired. Also I'm going skiing next month and want to be fit enough to enjoy it.

Yesterday I did W5R3 again.

OP posts:
CruCru · 11/01/2015 17:58

W6R1 done. Gosh, it felt much harder work than W5R3.

Well done Cru, though I'm scared for my future! (About to do week 2 run 3 tonight)

CruCru · 11/01/2015 18:36

Nah, I just had a stinking hangover. Makes it so much harder.

Hi, can I join you all?

I did w1r2 today. Although it was my fourth run in the last 8 days, I just tried to do as much as I could the first two times, which wasn't loads. So figured the c25k would be a good program to follow. I've never even attempted running before but wanted some form of exercise that could fit around my life (I work full time and have a 7yr old SS and an almost 2 yr old DS). I love how I can just leave the house and half an hour later I'm back home feeling good about getting moving. I also like having half an hour to myself!

How do you all manage your routes? I'm guessing as I go through the weeks I'll manage a bit further distance once I'm running more. Today I over estimated how far I'd manage so just did the program as normal then walked an extra five mins at the end.

PurpleSwift · 11/01/2015 21:54

Just done w1r3. I'm overweight and never attempted running before so it's quite a challenge for me but I really need the cardio!

IKYTWTLYA · 11/01/2015 22:53

Hi ginny & purple,

Well done for getting started, they say that's the hardest bit.

I've just finished week 2. I stick to mainly the same route, which is about 5 minutes longer than I need at the moment. I don't mind the walk back, it's leaving me room for when I (presumably) manage to run a bit further!

I use Strava to record the distance, time and pace. There are plenty of apps that will do the same. If I ever want to, I could go onto the Strava website and plan routes to save to my phone to follow. I haven't tried that yet though!

stilllearnin · 12/01/2015 07:50

I think the easiest way is to go out and back. You just need to find the midpoint in the runs you are doing and turn around then??

cru is w6 when it goes from continuous running back to run/walk- that's a killer to start back on!! How is the Garmin working out. I have no gps phone thing so I'm tempted but so far fairly happy doing the mapping on map my run which also logs my total distance.

CruCru · 12/01/2015 08:07

Welcome ginny & purple!

Stilllearnin - I love the garmin but that is because I love gadgets. I've also now got a FitBit which is good fun. It's made me rather obsessive about getting my 10,000 steps in (easy on a run day) so I get quite sulky if we have a long car journey.

Week 2 run 1 today. I bought some new kit at the weekend and look like a pro! Don't run like one yet though! Buying the gear will keep me going hopefully.

CruCru · 12/01/2015 14:59

Ah wicked, lagoon, I love new kit. I bought mine last summer and it still makes me happy to put it on.

DisparateHouseMice · 12/01/2015 15:59

Hi everyone!
Can I join your gang?

Did W3 R1 yesterday.
Couldn't believe that 3 mins non stop running could be possible when 1 min was torture on the first day !
I'm now pretty optimistic that eventually 5k will be attainable.

I'm a smoker (10 a day). Is anybody else?

CruCru · 12/01/2015 16:49

Hi Disparate

I am not a smoker but I am a size 20, which doesn't help my speed. Glad to hear you're finding 3 mins doable.

OP posts:
IKYTWTLYA · 12/01/2015 17:49

Disparate - that makes me hopeful! I'm doing that one tomorrow!

I still ache from yesterday.

I agree new kit makes you feel better about it. I got some nice Karrimor leggings which are a bit thicker than the cheapo nasty ones I've got. Made running in the rain a bit better.

I was hoping running on Sunday's would help me sleep. It doesn't!

DisparateHouseMice · 12/01/2015 18:04

IKYTW: it really is doable!
I've become positively evangelical about this running lark, much to the chagrin of my family!

Does anyone find themselves dreading moving on to a new week?
Where does one buy self confidence?

Lilliput · 12/01/2015 18:21

If you look like a runner with the right kit it certainly helps keep you motivated.
I did week 2 run 2 today. It's back to work tomorrow after a couple of weeks annual leave which I have used to kick start the C25K programme and now have to find the time and motivation to keep going.

Lagoonablue · 12/01/2015 21:55

God my knees are super sore this evening. Is this usual?

IKYTWTLYA · 12/01/2015 23:18

Where are you up to in the C25K Lagoona?

My knees have started to... not hurt as such, but definitely feel like they've been used! (Wk3 tomorrow).

It's more my hips (always been dodgy) and thighs. But I've been doing P90X too so not sure which is causing the problem.

Maybe they'll get better with use?

Maybe you need another rest day? (Unless you think it might put you off going out again - which is my concern)

Lagoonablue · 13/01/2015 06:52

Only week 2 but they were fine last week. I can't run now til Thursday so hoping they will recover. Just sore and stiff. Ouch.
