Hi all!
W6 R3 tomorrow.
I'm following the Runmeter app and this week has been 10 min runs.
Dreading next week as i think it moves on to 20 min runs.
Week 5 was 15 mins, why the "easy" week 6?
Anyhoo psyching myself up for the longer run next week.

As for stretching i do a half hearted stretching at the end of the 35 mins.
Seems to be ok.

Keep at it ladies.
We should be proud of ourselves.
Especially Cru who is my inspiration! (Teeny tiny girl crush!)

Whowouldfardelsbear · 14/02/2015 08:21

Well I've done week 3 and hoping to start week 4 tomorrow.

I've been delayed as last Sunday I went for a hike with a friend, which we thought was climbing to the top of one local (little) mountain, and walking along the ridge to the peak of another about 10km away. It ended up being the walk up one peak, the back down, about 6km walk along a public road, and then back up to the top of the other. About 25 km in all and two massive climbs.

So my legs have been ruined all week. I felt a bit better Wednesday so did w3R3 which i completed but was back to square one with leg pain by the end. It seems to have settled down now, but don't want to do myself any serious injury but I am so keen to get going!

So bring on the 5 minute run!

AMillionNameChangesLater · 14/02/2015 09:12

I've still not done w2r2! My ankle has swollen up and is hurting when I put any weight on it (just initially, and every step) so I thought it best to leave it a little. If it still isn't feeling better by Monday I'll go to the gp.

addictedtosugar · 16/02/2015 18:48

Cheerful
Yes, I need to do a little stretch after I run, so i really know about it the next day - but I don't usually make the full 5 min cool down, so that might be why?

addictedtosugar · 16/02/2015 18:48

or I really know about it....

Whowouldfardelsbear · 17/02/2015 07:36

Urgh well I think I tried week 4 too soon before my leg is properly better. I did the first half (3 minutes run, 90 second walk, 5 minute run) fine but then after the second walk my knee seized up totally and I had to limp back home.

It doesn't feel too bad now, but i am going to wait at least a week before trying again.

At least I know I can do five minutes though!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/02/2015 19:33

I have been AWOL, but I have still (mostly) been running.

A couple of weeks ago I had a reoccurring soft tissue ishoo but with the help of an Osteopath and repeating week 3, I have just completed week 4 and my next run will be at the end of the week. Bring on week 5 - shiiiiiiiiiit

cheapandcheerful · 19/02/2015 18:39

W6r2 done. Woo!

addictedtosugar · 19/02/2015 20:35

Well done cheerful
that must mean your a runner now, and no more walking breaks between the warm up and cool down. You go Girl!

Indomitable · 19/02/2015 21:17

Hey, I've been AWOL for a bit too.

Well done Cheerful! Glad your injury is better ILTMI. Hope yours are better soon Whowould & Million.

I've just done w7r3 and I'm starting to feel like a proper shuffler runner. Though I'm super slow!

It was lovely in the 7C rain this evening! (Honestly, just the right temp)

And I always stretch my calves and hip flexors when I get back (the stereotypical 'pushing the building over' thing!)

cheapandcheerful · 20/02/2015 08:26

Indomitable I'm really slow too! I'm sure that I'm going to come last when I attempt my first parkrun!

addictedtosugar · 20/02/2015 17:18

Cheerful You'll be a full 5km ahead of everyone on their backsides!
Haven't you seen the newspaper articles recently saying slow is better?1

Indomitable · 20/02/2015 18:13

Fair point, Addicted!

I've got my first parkrun tomorrow.

I'm fine with the running, it's the getting up and driving 30'miles at the crack of dawn on a Saturday that's worrying me!

Lagoonablue · 21/02/2015 07:55

Can I just ask what you wear when it's chilly and cold? I have a long sleeve running top but it's not very warm. I have seen a couple of rain jackets but not sure if they are worth the investment.

addictedtosugar · 21/02/2015 10:54

Long trousers, a long sleeved top, and a thin snood over my ears.
I'm cool for the first 10 mins (5 mins walk, the early running), and then usually push my sleeves up. Covering my ears makes a big difference.

I have double layered before - so put a short sleeved summer running top under a long sleeved one.

I don't like the rain jackets - I get too sweaty in them.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 21/02/2015 12:37

Thank you indomitable Grin

W5R1 - tick. It was surprisingly ok. I remember from last time that getting past that hump of 'oh God, this is horrible, I cant do it', is the tough bit. After that I try and go into auto-pilot and just keep going.

Someone please remind me of what I just said before I tackle run 2&3 this week Grin

Indomitable · 21/02/2015 15:34

I did the parkrun this morning. I didn't really enjoy running with other people! And I couldn't keep running, had lots of walks.

Still came out with my best pace, which probably means I was trying to go too fast.

cheapandcheerful · 21/02/2015 15:58

Well done indomitable! Care to share your time?

I did w6r3 today and think I went about 3.8km including warm-up and cool-down. So that was 22mins running and 10mins walking.

Does that sound about right? I just used google maps to work out the distance so can't imagine it's too accurate.

Does anyone know if there are any free apps out there that let you put in your route and work out the exact distance?

Indomitable · 21/02/2015 16:57

Cheerful have you got a smartphone? There are tons of apps.

Did the 5k 33:41. (Average pace 10:56 - waay too fast to maintain)

addictedtosugar · 21/02/2015 17:16

I use www.mapmyrun.com - on the computer at home. Many at work have it as an app on their phone.

5km in 33 min is a really good pace.

cheapandcheerful · 21/02/2015 20:00

Well that was worth doing! I just put my route into mapmyrun.com and it turns out that I ran 4.3k today, not 3.8!

I'm closer to 5k than I thought! Grin

Mumonabroom · 21/02/2015 20:59

Hi all! I've just done w5r3! 20 minutes solid? Eep. Felt good though and I felt like a tough mudder with all the puddles around. Ha! With warm ups included, I did about 3.6k, but last run with walking in between I did nearly 5k. Waiting to see what w6r1 brings. Any tips for this stage please?

PurpleSwift · 21/02/2015 22:16

Very quiet on here recently.
Sorry Cru only just spotted your post, yes my shoes are actually very old but not all that worn but i could definitely do with some new ones, I just can't justify the cost atm. My pains have eased slightly since doing a proper warm up as well (I was too lazy to do them when i started Blush ) I'll invest in some as soon as i can i think.

I have W6R3 tomorrow and on my APP that means going from 10mins non-stop to 15mins and atm i'm gasping for breath after my 10! :(

cheapandcheerful · 21/02/2015 22:21

purple which program are you doing? I did w6r3 today and it was 22mins non-stop...

For what it's worth, the 8-10min window is the toughest and once I get past that it gets a bit easier.

cheapandcheerful · 21/02/2015 22:22

I mean the 8-10min window is my personal nemesis...I realise that it will be different for others!
