Cross country running

Does anyone take part in this? Dd, 9, has been told about a cross country series in our area and is keen to have a go. I quite fancy it too but can't get any results for previous races. There's a 5k which would be fun but I'm scared I'll be last! The entry list is full of club runners. Should I have a go or is it humiliation guaranteed?!

I have done cross country for the last couple of years. First year I was last or nearly last in all the races of the series but I had a ball! I was last in one and had to be pulled out of the mud by the back runner several times Shock Second year I improved on all my times, ended up up to my waist in an unexpectedly deep stream in one race.
Basically if you like a bit of mud and water go for it..who cares if you're last. Runners are generally very supportive of all abilities.
