Spin shoes - do they make your legs chunky?

I have been spinning for about 10 years but have always resisted getting spin/cycling shoes on the totally uncorroborated theory that they will make my legs more muscly

Is this half baked or is there some truth to my fears?

Are they cycling shoes with cleats? I use them on my bike and I wouldn't say they've made my legs chunky. Far more efficient way of cycling as you can pull up as well as push down.

never heard that they make legs chunky. I am now converted to using cleats for cycling as like Viva said they are so much more efficient!

surely if anything the reverse, cycling will be more efficient and therefore require less effort=less muscle activation=smaller muscles
In practice I doubt it will make much visible difference, then again I dont understand the problem with muscular legs, the more muscle you have the easier it is to remain lean

Thank you all. Decided to buy some yesterday based on your feedback. I'm excited to try them.

Let us know how you get on, Jjcrackers.

I keep thinking about buying some for spinning, but never get round to it. If your legs get chunky, I won't bother Grin

My legs are certainly buzzing today - first time in ages. My hamstrings in particular and burning

Which ones did you get?
