Did My First Half Marathon Today

northernmummeh · 21/09/2014 19:25

After posting a couple of weeks ago about panicking over my first half marathon. I did it this morning. Like actually finished it and everything Grin I'm proper chuffed Grin

2hr30 so not going to break any records I know but I did it and that's the main thing. It was 'undulating too' the first 4 miles, a hill at 8.5 and 11 miles that really weren't appreciated and made me want to die. Despite it being in the morning it was still baking hot and my face is now on fire with sunburn Blush

But lots to be learnt and it's not put me off so eyeing up the next one

That's great - well done! Grin

MelanieCheeks · 21/09/2014 19:30

yay! Terrific achievement, well done!

Explored · 21/09/2014 19:38

Ah, we've got you Grin

Well done. You'll be planning you holidays, wardrobe, meals and social life around running before you know it. It's the best thing in the world.

Hope you've done lots of stretching, rest tomorrow, walk on Tues but no running until at least the weekend. Buy some running magazines and get your fix that way. Smile

northernmummeh · 22/09/2014 09:33

My life has been organised around running for a year now Grin going on holiday to cornwall in 2 weeks. Don't want to miss ParkRun so doing some tourism at Congleton on the way down.

Don't feel as bad as I was expecting today. But did a good cool down and stretched ALOT yesterday. Got work today and have to take a health walk so will be good to keep moving. Got a 10k on Sunday though but it's renowned as not being a PB course so I'll be taking it easy at the back Smile

Well done! My first one is this coming weekend and I'm alternating between excited and panicking….

wormshuffled · 22/09/2014 19:43

Eeek my first on Sunday too! I'm avoiding everyone to avoid bugs, and thinking very carefully before every food choice, shoe choice and have bitten down all my nails! good luck fellow newb half marathoners and well done to the OP!

Asleeponasunbeam · 22/09/2014 20:33

Well done OP.

My first is in 3 weeks. I'm scared and panicking.

pootlebug · 23/09/2014 22:21

Which are you doing wormshuffled?

annabanana19 · 23/09/2014 22:37

Well done you! My 1st half was the same time. Now you have something to aim for when you do another one!

wormshuffled · 24/09/2014 07:29

Nottingham pootlebug, how about you?

iwantgin · 24/09/2014 07:31

Brilliant!! Glad you enjoyed it. :)

Your time is not too shabby either. Mine was 15 minutes longer than that - tbh I was just glad to get round.. :)

You should rock the 10k now you KNOW that you can run distances!

pootlebug · 24/09/2014 09:43

Ealing for me, wormshuffled

wormshuffled · 25/09/2014 16:20

Good luck pottlebug! Are you finding tapering hard? I'm worried I've done too little this week. 10k Saturday fastest pace, 5k Tuesday medium pace and today I did 5k and a friend came along who was very very slow, I ended up really slow and don't even feel like I exercised! I'm temped to do one more run tonight or early tomorrow.... what do you all reckon?

annabanana19 · 25/09/2014 18:08

I have a HM week Sunday. Last bootcamp this evening, 6 mile run tomorrow. 5k on Saturday and a short trot midweek.

Cant wait!

pootlebug · 30/09/2014 12:04

How was it wormshuffled?

wormshuffled · 30/09/2014 13:37

Hello ! Oh my word it was hard, I was struggling from 6 miles! and I had done 11 odd in training and quicker too, which didn't hurt as much! But never mind its done now , first one under my belt in 2 hours 14. How did you find it pootlebug?

pootlebug · 30/09/2014 18:45

Well done! As you say, first one under your belt. It felt really good to finish it didn't it? Have you any more booked?

It felt pretty good up until about 14km or so - even took the hills in my stride okay. But 14-19km was tougher going….I was really trying to push the pace and my legs were very much telling me to stop. And they'd sort of gone jelly-ish and didn't really feel like my legs. I used my Garmin a lot to force myself to keep the pace up else I know I would have dropped off more.

But 1.45.08. I had said I wanted to do under 1.50, and would be ecstatic with under 1.45 - so I can probably live with the 8 seconds. Although it was my first HM I did two Olympic distance triathlons this summer which I think helped a lot with the endurance aspect.

I am still walking downstairs in a really odd penguin fashion with a look of pain on my face. My quads HURT.

wormshuffled · 01/10/2014 16:47

Legs weren't too bad to be honest but my toes are a mess!
It seems crazy to me that I'm considering doing another considering how much I hated doing it. I said never again afterwards and nothing has ever made me say that before ...even childbirth!
You're super speedy! I could never dream of getting that fast!
There's one in 4 weeks I might do, its fairly local and small. After that they seem to stop over winter?

Are you booked in for another pootlebug?

northernmummeh · 01/10/2014 16:58

Oooo well done guys. Especially under 2 hours! I could only dream of times like that!

I've already got ones local to me I'm eyeing up. There's on in January which I'm keen to do just to keep me motivated over winter then rock n roll half in liverpool in the summer Smile

Wow, well done! Great times.

Mine is next week. I did 11 at the weekend which is the longest run I'm doing. 2:20 will be great but I think I'll just be glad to finish!
