New body pump

I've just done the new release and I hated it. It was all get down, get up again then down again, just too busy in my opinion. Plus I thought the music was mostly rubbish. I've done pump for years and never felt like walking out before. Anyone else agree or am I completely wrong?

I dont think we have done the new one yet. Which release is it?

ilovepowerhoop · 17/09/2014 20:20

we are still doing Body Pump 90

queenofthemountains · 17/09/2014 21:18

Don't know the number but it's The Killers for the squats and the most awful song about being born with a gun in his hand for the biceps. I think it only came out last week. It's definitely not The Beastie boys shoulders. I LOVE that one.

Sounds like release 91 so haven't done it yet. My dh says the squat track is hard with no rest periods.

Meglet · 17/09/2014 21:34

I haven't been in ages. Is Beastie Boys shoulders the current (older?) release. I'd like that.

I had the 'pleasure' of the latest combat release this week. Quelle-fucking-surprise, more ACDC. It's always ACDC at combat.

abear · 17/09/2014 21:38

I di the new release 91 yesterday, I agree, it is messy and awkward. So much time wasted up and down and changing around.

queenofthemountains · 18/09/2014 17:20

Beastie boys is years old, but the instructor still does it. I'd love to do combat again but have plantar fasciitis which means I can't do anything with impact, bloody heel.

Oh damn, it does look shite!

We're not starting 91 at my gym until Saturday, but I just googled the track list. That terrible 'Hey Brother' song for triceps, and fecking 'Trumpets' (hate!!) for the core track.

I go 3 times a week, religiously...this is going to tip me over the edge, isn't it?!

KoalaDownUnder · 18/09/2014 17:35

Also, can anyone who's done it tell me, please - does the squat track have lots of fast singles?

I don't mind singles, but I don't enjoy it when they're really fast. There are a couple of old releases where the squat track made me feel as if I was going to fall over. Maybe because I'm 5'10", but getting all the way down and back up again that quickly can be overwhelming!

queenofthemountains · 18/09/2014 19:34

The triceps is dire. It's 24 single squats I find it hard to keep up. Not sure if they are fast, it's all hard track.

Oh lord. Dreading it now!

cardoon · 20/09/2014 07:03

I always start off HATING the new release Grin......Miss Jackson keeps me going now on the bicep track now - love it! Think we have to wait a few weeks for 91

KoalaDownUnder · 20/09/2014 07:13

Yes, I liked Miss Jackson!

Can't stand the new tricep track - Avicii 'Hey Brother', obnoxious song and it seems to go on forever!!

maybemyrtle · 20/09/2014 13:38

We're all over the place at my gym, one instructor is on the new, one doing the old, and another seems to be doing a "retrospective" so we're doing different tracks each week. Quite enjoying that actually - Monday's highlight was Nirvana! Grin

Have to say I prefer the lunges on the newest release. I can actually finish them :)

KoalaDownUnder · 20/09/2014 13:40

While we're here, can I ask what weights people are using for each track?

I seem to have plateaued; haven't put my weights up in months. I'm wondering if there's a max that women reach, and then that's it. Sad

ilovepowerhoop · 20/09/2014 14:06

I havent changed mine in ages either. I use the following (weights are each side of the bar):

warm-up - 3.5kg
squats - 10kg
chest - 5kg
back - 6kg (some girls in my class use 7.5kg)
triceps - 5kg (if using the bar)
biceps - 3.5kg
squats/lunges - 5kg
shoulders - 2.5kg (sometimes 3.5kg)

queenofthemountains · 20/09/2014 14:14

Mine are
Warm up 5kg
Squats 7.5
Chest 5
Back 6.25
Triceps 5
Biceps 3.75
Lunges none
Shoulders 2.5 hand weights and on bar.

I've never really managed to up my back and biceps without losing all technique.

Cant wait for the new release but not looking forward to the single squats. An instructor I know, who has her training video to film and I get to join in Grin, picked 90 over 91 as she thought it was easier! Miss Jackson is my new fav bicep track after Stronger Grin. They all hate it when I make track suggestions, we have had Florence and the Machine for lunges for the last 2 weeks and Scooter for shoulders this week!
Each side for me
Warm up 5
squats 12.5
chest 8.5
back 8.5
triceps 6
biceps 6 (Miss Jackson 5)
lunges 8.5
shoulders 4.5 bar 2.5 hand
This has taken me 2 years to get to but I have done strength training in the gym and have a fab instructor who plays bicep challenge with me Smile.

Just found this thread, nice to see fellow body pumpers on MN!
I'm a relative newby, about a month in now, been going 3 x a week and beginning to see an improvement now.
We did the "express" (about 40 mins?) version of 91 the other day for the launch.
The music sucks, Koala I agree with you about Trumpets and Hey Brother, bleurgh!
The squats are tough, lots of singles. The clean and presses are quite fun though, although my technique goes a bit out the window when they're so fast.
The worst part for me was the core track, just WTF is that all about, those sideways plank lifty things!!! My core is admittedly very weak but I literally couldn't even do the first set, I was near the back so I just had a cheeky wee lie down instead! Grin
We are stuck with 91 for the next three weeks they're telling us so here's hoping it gets better.
I'm going to pay attention to my numbers on the weights so I can post them, I'm unsure about lbs/kgs (in USA)
How does everyone feel about trying to keep this thread going for a little support/tips/encouragement?

McPie · 29/09/2014 12:19

Was worried about doing 91 this morning but I actually loved it. It is hard but that's the way I personally enjoy my Body Pump classes Grin.
I dropped my squat weight to 20 rather than 25 and went with a slightly lower bicep weight for the 1st go but will be adding more on for next week.

CawCanny · 30/09/2014 22:03

Ok, so here's what I lifted today

warm-up - 5kgs each side
squats - 7.5kgs each side
chest - 2.5kg plates for A presses (is that what they're called?)
back - 5kgs each side
triceps - 2.5 kg plate
biceps - 2.5 kgs each side but this felt a bit too light
squats/lunges - 5kg plate
shoulders - 2.5 kg each side- I always struggle to complete the shoulders track, even at this weight.

Does this sound reasonable for one month in? I've had to do some tweaking lately as the class is busy, there's a shortage of weights so you can often only get one set of each size and I'm not quick enough getting them on and off the bar in a mixed plates/bar track

CawCanny · 30/09/2014 22:06

and yes, queenofthemountains that bicep track is hideous! it doesn't even match the choreography in any way. Awful
