Sept 2014 - 30 Day Shred thread - because Christmas is coming

Join us as we bounce, hoik, stumble and otherwise get ourselves through one or other of Jillian Michaels' DVD programs. Some of us love it most of the time, others of us just do it and then learn to love it as we start to feel stronger, leaner and generally fitter. You can be as negative as you need to be, just show up and get it done. You know you want to.

show - nice when the scales do that, well done! Hope you can get going - it can be hard but usually people do feel better afterwards.

yadahyadah · 17/09/2014 09:35

Morning Shredders, I have a cold (yippee) and am taking full advantage of it this week to avoid morning workouts. Also DH is at home suffering and throwing me off kilter in all my weird little routines by his mere presence ( any one else get that?) and I am still settling bambino into preschool so I feel frankly entitled to have a little breather this week and get to it next. lambzig wait for workout 7. It super sucks. But you will be ready for it. I like this program. Go on, tell me you do too.

Hope you feel better soon yadah. A week off now and again (so long as it's not too often) can be a very good idea - enjoy it as far as the cold allows.

Lambzig · 17/09/2014 11:39

I have an enforced couple of days off due to a horrid stomach bug that has me feeling weak. DS has it too, but is otherwise full of beans, exhaustingly. Hopefully back to it tomorrow.

Yadah, I like workouts 3 and 4 and despite my missing lots can see a difference in my body starting to change. I have to say that I hate, hate the cardio workout. It reminds me of the worst PE at school and I am seriously unmotivated to do it. Am hoping that phase 2 cardio is better.

Well done - it is good how quickly you begin to feel benefits not just aches.

With lunges and squats, I find that its best to lead with the butt... think about moving that back and down and the rest tends to follow into the right place better than if you think in terms of bending your knees. (though obv check that this is what happens for you)

30DS L1 D7. The shoulder of my mouse arm is really sore: I gave up on one set of anterior arm raises and lay on the mat feeling pathetic instead (I know, I know, I should just have done it without the weights). Unfortunately the work crisis now looks set to carry on till the end of November. One more day and it's the weekend .

Glad people are still on this thread! Lambzig and yadah, hope you feel better soon. Well done for struggling on through ShowMe.

Errol, I'm only doing one workout each day - so this week I've done three days on 30DS and one on Killer Abs so far (will do another Killer Abs tomorrow). I'm mixing it up so I don't get too bored going back through the Shred.

Body rev, week 3, workout 3 second time. Still hard, but I got through it this time, just about.

Showme, you are killing this. Did you have some fitness already?

Killer Abs L1 D8 done. Hurrah, I can now have the weekend off Jillian! Aiming to finish off L1 of both this and the Shred next week and then move on to L2 at the beginning of the following week.

When do you have to go back to work, ShowMe?

30DS L1D8 done.

Well done, ShowMe - the end of L1 is in sight. I'm so impressed that you can do this with a non-sleeping baby: I couldn't have contemplated it when DS was a baby.

I find it's worth adding some calf stretches to Jillian's cool down: her stretching is a bit perfunctory anyway and there are some areas she just doesn't cover.

yadahyadah · 22/09/2014 08:10

Body Rev phase 2 week 8 workout 7 - yup still hardcore.

Epic fail on weekend exercise. DH has a career changing huge thing next week and he had to spend the weekend pulling his stuff together. That meant no respite from solo childcare and I took them out the house a lot. I also spent 7 hours helping him make it look fantastic, so sadly didn't have the energy/time/floorspace. I did push 12kg buggy containing 18kg DS up hills at Stowe for a few hours, so hopefully that did something.

I am at work today, but determined to get back to it tomorrow. I genuinely don't know how those of you with full time jobs and children are fitting it in.

Hello all - did NMTZ this morning, better at the abs stuff than last time I did it.
The weekend off included some sailing - I volunteered to crew for someone in the Bart's Bash race, which was fun - I'm not sure I'd have been confident to crew for someon I'd never sailed with in an unfamiliar boat before getting fitter. Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 22/09/2014 14:08

show - about those quad stretches .... for some reason Jillian omits to mention in L1 what she says in L2 and ripped, that it's fine to use furniture for balance. On previous threads I've mentioned this to newbies to save them the hopping around, apologies I forgot this month.

yadahyadah · 22/09/2014 14:18

ShowMe yes it is a bit stupidly expensive isn't it. I happened across it on Vimeo which is like You Tube and started doing it there but then, the feed was removed - prob due to copyright issues - so then I was panicking and wittering to my DH who found a colleague at work who had used it and was happy to lend to me. So I am using her copy and thinking more and more that I may ask for it as an Xmas gift as I think compared to gym memberships etc, it is not that much and as a program of complete fitness, I really really like it.

Lambzig My weights are 1.5kg/2kg/3kg. I cannot see myself going heavier than that. I also got a non JM branded cable thing but I find it is not long enough for some of her exercises so I am bit pissed off about that. I may buy ine of hers in a few months should I feel it is warranted but for now just use my weights for the cable moves.

lambzig - just read your post re weekend... with all that going on I wouldn't said you'd failed on exercise! Good luck to your DH!

ImogenQuy · 23/09/2014 07:07

Killer Abs L1 D9 done. First time I've managed to do the dancing crab without actually falling over. Though it's not so much dancing as flailing.

ShowMe, when I'm doing the Shred I often just do the quad stretches on the floor, since she has you on the floor for the other stretches anyway. It saves a lot of hopping about / grabbing furniture!

Errol, what's NMTZ like compared with Ripped? Harder or easier? I have the DVD but haven't done anything with it yet: I need to have a look at the workouts and see how to break them up into chunks that I can fit in before DS gets up. 45 minutes is too long to do all in one go.

Good luck to your DH, Lambzig.
