Join us as we bounce, hoik, stumble and otherwise get ourselves through one or other of Jillian Michaels' DVD programs. Some of us love it most of the time, others of us just do it and then learn to love it as we start to feel stronger, leaner and generally fitter. You can be as negative as you need to be, just show up and get it done. You know you want to.

My ds tries to crawl under me when I'm in plank position Hmm

I had another rest day today Blush was in lots of pain feeling a bit better now. Physio was on holiday today so couldn't ask. Back on it tomorrow!

Littleorangetree · 05/09/2014 21:22

Me too SpottyTeacakes!! Either that or he lies on the couch laughing at how red my face is Hmm.

ImogenQuy · 05/09/2014 21:23

Sad Lambzig. You'll get back to it - you rocked earlier this year when you were working your way through Ripped.

I'm fully expecting to fall off the wagon when the weather starts getting cold and dark in the mornings. For the moment, I'm getting up early to do it (DS has finally been persuaded to stay in bed till the sun comes up on his Gro-Clock - I can't remember how old your younger one is, Lambzig: would a Gro-Clock work?), but I don't think the motivation will be there once the clocks go back. On a morning when it works, though, it's great: I put the coffee machine on as I put the DVD in, do my workout, take my coffee upstairs, drink it and post on this thread, and then DS gets up and I get him breakfast and go and shower. I start the day feeling quite on top of things. (Also I reckon if I've already had Jillian telling me she wants me to feel like I'm going to die before 7 a.m., the day can't usually get any worse.)

Lambzig · 05/09/2014 21:38

So funny Imogen. I worry about us all that we like some stroppy woman wanting us to die and saying "I don't care if you pass out, I have done it before to people". Some unresolved masochistic streak? If we posted on relationships that she says this but then tells us it's for our own good, we would be told to LTB.

Unfortunately, DS is 22 months and not yet talking and given that this evening he drew on the sofa with a pen, smashed a glass bowl and then flooded the bathroom (not liking his sister going to school AT ALL), I am not sure he is to be reasoned with just yet. Gro clock really works with DD, but once she hears her DB is up, all bets are off.

I need a goal - previously it was feel good in a bikini, not sure what I can think of.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/09/2014 22:18

Lambzig, a child starting reception is a tough time (can't imagine managing it with a toddler too!) but 'this too shall pass'.
Goal - do you do any xmas/new year parties, if so they will feature you in a knockout dress I'm sure.

flowerpowergirl · 06/09/2014 03:32

Hey my posts have disappeared. Grrr. Thanks for knee advice everyone. I did post a thank you a few days ago but its now gone. Anyway spotty did you see the physio yet? I think my knee is slightly better. I am not going so deep into the lunges (iow I am almost vertical!) and have dropped down to pathetically light weights. Plus on the pendulum lunge I am going in slow motion so I can check my knees aren't going forward. L2D5 today. Def a bit better but still bloody hard. Oh and I am doing alternate days. This shred will take forever to complete. I'm into month 3 now. Stick at it stick at it...

SpottyTeacakes · 06/09/2014 06:18

Lambzig sounds like our dc are the same age.

Flower the physio was on holiday yesterday (how dare he!) will have to wait until next week.

SpottyTeacakes · 06/09/2014 09:18

30DSL2D5 complete. I'm off to buy a knee support...and some NSAID

Lambzig · 06/09/2014 09:50

Body Rev Phase 1, Week 2, Day 3 done - the dreaded cardio (I swear she has put all the cardio things I hate to do in one hadn't half hour). Despite doing 30DS and RI30 earlier this summer, I still can't get to grips with the running man, my legs just don't do that.

DS basically ransacked drawers (example pulling out three packs of playing cards and throwing each individual card around the house) while I was doing it so I now have the extra exercise of picking them up.

Lambzig · 06/09/2014 09:53

Oh and I have had a dodgy knee for years, it always hurt going downstairs and I couldn't walk down an escalator. Doing 30 day shred it really hurt at first and I just kept going but carefully, avoiding the jumping lunges and it stopped hurting. Despite not exercising for a couple of months really, it now no longer hurts at all.

Littleorangetree · 07/09/2014 08:27

Had a day off the shred yesterday, but will get back to it this evening. So far the knees seem to be holding out, but I'm being v. careful with positioning after hearing about everyone's knee trouble!

OublietteBravo · 07/09/2014 10:45

OK - I finally got back to the shred today (I had a stinking cold last week, which completely sapped my motivation).

Technically I think I'm at L1 D8, but as I've only managed to shred once in the past 3 weeks I'm going to consider today as day 1 (because I'll die if I try moving on to level 2 this week).

30DS L1D1 - done.

Lambzig · 07/09/2014 17:50

Body rev, phase 1, week 2, day 4 done. I swear I am getting less and less fit every day.

SpottyTeacakes · 07/09/2014 17:58

I haven't done it today Blush my knee was super painful this morning and, although it's ok now, I think I will leave it for today

ImogenQuy · 08/09/2014 07:08

Killer Abs L1 D4 done. My midriff is totally revolting - the front bit below my navel sort of hangs down in a pouch when I forget to pull it in. I've also put on a couple of pounds. This week I will eat no cake, and possibly invest in control underwear.

Lambzig, with a 22-month old I'm amazed you're doing regular exercise at all. I didn't manage to commit to this till DS was three and a a half and was finally sleeping through the night and not getting up at silly o'clock in the morning.

SpottyTeacakes · 08/09/2014 07:13

I'm not doing it again today. Mixture of no time and my knee, hip and shin still hurting

yadahyadah · 08/09/2014 08:11

Body Rev Phase 2 week 7 workout 7. Ai Ai Ai - hello crow push ups, how I have missed you (not).

Hang in there everyone, Imogen me and tummy are not friends again. it is still lagging far far behind the rest of me. In positive weeks, I can say it is slowly doing something better than it was but in bad weeks ( and I feel a bad one coming on) I just despair of it ever being even a normal flabby tummy, It is like extreme overhang tummy. UGH.

Morning all - Shred L3 today. I'd forgotten I like it better than L2 on the whole - though pike crunches are unlikely to ever happen, too much strain on the lower back. And travelling pushups obv Anita-style. But some of the other stuff which was so hard a year ago really isn't now - I can do the full sets of walking planks Natalie-style now and quite enjoy mountain climbers!
And while I may not be able to kick my butt doing 'rock star jumps' at least I can see daylight under my feet now.

So for anyone struggling - keep at it (unless you've got sore joints, that is) and you really will improve.

Lambzig · 08/09/2014 11:36

Imogen, I feel your pain on the stomach thing, i swear all the 7lbs I put on went on there.

No exercise for me today as its an office day and I leave home at stupid o clock in the dark and am not back until late (excuses, excuses, but I have tried and I just cant).

OublietteBravo · 08/09/2014 21:43

No shred today - because there is a HUGE spider in my bath, and DH is away so I have no one to move it. I feel a bit pathetic, but I can't shred as I couldn't shower afterwards

SpottyTeacakes · 09/09/2014 05:47

Hip pain kept me away. I think I might have to swap the shred for Pilates HmmSad

bertieboo · 09/09/2014 06:31

Morning all, so having got off to a great start I have done nothing!
Well not the 30DS anyway. Lots of horse riding, reformer Pilates and walking everywhere (16,000 steps a day - love my Jawbone Up)
Anyway I restarted L130DS and am counting yesterday as D1.
Am going to do it 5 x a week giving myself the weekends off.
Yesterday was hard, though for the first time in my life I got an endorphin rush so I am excited to do it again today.
Sorry to hear about knee injuries - my lunges are also practically vertical. I desperately want to avoid injuring my knee.

ImogenQuy · 09/09/2014 07:11

30DS L1 D3 done. Really struggling with the anterior raises with the heavier weights. I frequently think I'm missing several muscles in my upper body.

Errol, I can't do pike crunches either - I have to substitute something else for any exercise where both legs come up at once. I may struggle with levels 2 and 3 of the Killer Abs DVD.

SpottyTeacakes, Pilates is great if you can get to a class. Until I had DS I did it religiously and it kept everything toned and my back pain well under control. I'd be anxious about doing it at home with no-one to correct my position, though - tiny shifts in position make quite a big difference. I have the Darcey Bussell DVD, but somehow I feel safer doing JM as it's easier to be sure I'm doing the exercises right.

yadahyadah · 09/09/2014 08:02

Body Rev phase 2 week 7 workout 8. Jeez she has stepped up the pace a bit on these. Looking forward to the cardio tomorrow. Keep it up, people.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/09/2014 14:20

Imogen - anterior raises are harder, I think there's more leverage for one thing. I use smaller weights for those than for other moves.

shred L3 day 2 - I sort of managed the pike crunches today, by (a) remembering to put my firm foam wedge under my butt (keeps the small of my back flat to prevent strain, it really helps) and then doing them starting from up and lowering as far as possible. Apart from that, and the travelling pressups, the rest was pretty much 'natalie' - well, the jumping lunges were only jumpy for the first half of each interval before slowing down. But so much better than last year. Smile
