Running and chafing. Ouch [sad]

I am proud and pained to say that I am now running for long enough to experience some serious chafage. It's the line under my boobs where my bra is sitting, it's rubbed raw. I'm assuming vaseline would have prevented this happening in the first place - would it?! And what might help get rid of it quickly now? Vaseline and sudocrem make it feel really sore.

Look up bodyglide or lanacane to prevent the chafing in the first place.

Not much you can do to get rid of it other than air, time and wearing a different sports bra for a bit.

Sounds like your sports bra doesn't fit tbh. It shouldn't be able to move and rub you if the band is the correct size. Have you done the MN bra measuring method?

In the mean time, bodyglide is fabulous. You can use it on your feet too

I also suspect that it doesnt fit properly. How does it feel on you?

LingDiLong · 25/08/2014 22:03

Thanks guys, one of my bras is ancient and another was very cheap although I did think they fit ok. I will check the fit and splash out on some decent ones.

They don't need to cost a fortune - my 'second string' sports bras are from Tescos and cost £6. They are fine for 10k on my 30ff norks.

The measure guide is here

Brilliant, thanks very much for the link!

Ive used lanacane and vaseline. The latter because it's cheaper and I can therefore slather more on without worrying about using it all up.
Under bra and inner thighs are where I get chafing especially if it rains during a run, but if I use it before each run it's no problem at all.

pootlebug · 26/08/2014 09:17

How long are you running for? I run up to about 1 hour 40 mins and have no chafing and don't use any lanacane etc.

Have you done the 'bra intervention' fitting method?

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 04/09/2014 23:44

Do not, repeat NOT, under any circumstances, rub a witch hazel stick on it ShockShockShock

Well actually I think it does help it heal quickly... but only after the 5 minutes of jumping around in agony shouting FUCKFUCKFUCK and wondering what you were thinking...

I like Shock Absorber for running- good wide band that lies nice and flat. I live in a really hot country, and run for long periods of time (2-4hrs) so chaffage can be an issue. I did have real nightmares with one bra, similar to you, and it was all down to just being the wrong fit.
