Thanks Science.

Daft I have found it ok actually - R1 was back to 8 mins running, 3 mins walking, and R2 10 mins running etc, so it didn't feel too bad. I am a bit worried about what she is going to tell me to do on Saturday - after the shock of having to run 20 mins last week, I bet she is going to tell me to do 25 this time!!

Redcliff · 09/10/2014 11:31

Science - lol. It's a shame as its nice and leafy where the drug dealers hang out so its a nice place to run and they they hardly glance up when I go past but it still freaks me out.

DaftMaul · 09/10/2014 11:41

I wonder if they have anything that could make me run faster? Wink

Yay! I graduated!

it was a tough run with a headwind all the way (despite it being a there and back linear route Confused). I ran for an extra 3mins at the end tho cos I want to hit the ellusive 5km for the session including walks. I wanted to run an extra 5mins but it was just too much. tStrava clocked me at 4.6km in 43:50. I got a PB over 2miles as well :-).
I think my goal for the next week will be to try and hit 5km.....

MySpideySenseTickles · 09/10/2014 12:16

Red, I used to live across the road from some drug dealers and while I in no way condone what they did and in fact reported them myself more than once they kept themselves to them selves and there was no crime on our street, no burglaries or antisocial behaviour. They kept the road crime free because it wasn't in their interests for the police to be on the street so they moved people along and put the word out to leave the road alone.
In a way it was a shame when they all got arrested, we were burgled the next week!
Anyway, enough procrastinating it's run time and I finally have music on my iPhone so don't have to listen to the horrible podcast music.

MySpideySenseTickles · 09/10/2014 13:33

I'm actually dying. I'm currently laid on the bathroom floor trying to build up the impetus to get in the shower.
I decided to push it and ran harder than before, I also went further and turned round further down the path than usual (it's the trans pennine trail, can't do a circuit because it's coast to coast) by the last run I hadn't just slowed down I was barely moving but I didn't stop, because I went further though I had an almost 15min cool down walk to get back to the car.

I'm tired and I ache but I feel better. It did help and I passed lots of people and just waved, I think one guy shouted something but I coupdn hear it over my gasping and the music, sounded like "go get em" I admit I put a spurt of speed on when passing people but then the last run suffered for it.

I'm going to do one more run of week 1 and progress to week 2, I thou a couple of times that I couldv run further but could barely lift my feet on the final run so maybe pace myself better!

ScienceRocks · 09/10/2014 14:08

Spidey well done! Smile

Edwinia wow! You do realise that from now on all runs have to be done in cap and gown? Grin

Kate nope, I am none the wiser Confused

Redcliff I started with music because I liked running in time to songs I love, but as the runs got longer, I found it was making me kind of clock watch. Now I listen to Desert Island Discs podcasts, which are the right length, I find really interesting and are less predictable, timewise, in their running order.

Redcliff · 09/10/2014 15:28

I meant proud !

Redcliff · 09/10/2014 15:46

Doh! Silly phone losing my post. Spidey - you must be so proud - well done.

Science - good tip as I really like desert island discs. Can you load them from the mobile site so they are on your phone or do you have to transfer them from your computer?

Edwinia - that is so impressive.

ScienceRocks · 09/10/2014 17:16

Redcliffe I am embarrassed to say that I don't know. DH put them on the ipod he and I share ages ago (like years ago, some of them have Sue Lawley presenting), but he tells me it isn't difficult Blush I think if you have iplayer installed on a device (like a phone), you can download them when you have wifi and then they sit in your "my downloads" section of iplayer. That's what I do on my tablet for TV programmes and other BBC stuff, at any rate, and I get into them via iplayer on the ipod.

Sorry, that's rubbish.

Spidey, are you off the bathroom floor?

MySpideySenseTickles · 09/10/2014 17:40

I did get up eventually, in my defence the tiles were lovely and cool. I've got the obligatory slightly achy knee that seems to happen every time and the ankle aches a bit but otherwise feeling pretty good.

PrivateBenjamin · 09/10/2014 19:52

Hello runners. Just got back from Aldi and they have loads of running gear: hi-visibility coats, gloves, scarves, tights etc. This is in Ireland but it might be in the UK too. I will now be a mismatched orange and yellow highly visible runner. Smile

MySpideySenseTickles · 10/10/2014 07:17

I saw they were getting them in the other day, are the jackets good quality? I could really do with something waterproof.

MySpideySenseTickles · 10/10/2014 18:04

Sadthe exhaust on my car decided to snap in half. Sil's are having ds all day tomorrow to take him to his first football match. I was going for a run but don't know if I'll get there, I'm not confident enough to do it on the road where people might see. I might risk driving it for the 5min drive there, the exhaust is hanging down and blowing but only scrapes the road over speed bumps.

Lilybensmum1 · 10/10/2014 18:12

Hi, hope you don't mind me joining I have been lurking but everyone on here seems like proper runners compared to me, can I ask some advice? I started c25k nearly 5 weeks ago but seem to be stuck on w3d3 I can't get the confidence to move up, I can do it without stopping but really struggle, do you run in the morning or evening if morning do you eat before you go?

I'm a nurse so work nights/weekends so not flexible, I either run after school run or In the evening work permitting! I'm scared of failing at week 4 my DH asked me when I would be able to run 5k I nearly killed him. Please tell me it gets easier!

ScienceRocks · 10/10/2014 18:42

Hey lily. Try the next run. Sometimes the step is psychological rather than physical, and you don't have to be doing something comfortably before moving on to the next step. Chances are, if you push yourself on the next one, if you then repeated the previous one, you would find it easier than you had before!

I did week 7 run 1 today. It was 25 minutes, which I was worried about as I am away from home and therefore away from my treadmill and I had to run outside. But it was fine! I even managed small hills! It has given me confidence to push a little more and try and get a bit faster in the hope that I will eventually hit the 5k mark.

DaftMaul · 10/10/2014 20:36

Hi lilyben, definitely try the next session. I tell myself that it will still be finished in 30 minutes and I can do it!

Week 4 was when I found my app went wrong and didn't give enough walking time before the next run (I think!) and I found the next session much easier (you get longer to recover between runs). Go on, give it a try! If it is too difficult, just keep trying it until you manage it.

I don't work so I run as soon as dh leaves with the dcs for school - 7.45am. I'm not sure I would be disciplined enough to do evenings.

ScienceRocks · 10/10/2014 22:43

Lily, I sometimes run in the morning, either early 7:15am) or after the school run, and I don't have breakfast until afterwards though I do drink tea and juice beforehand as I am usually dehydrated in the morning.

If I run in the evening, it is after the DD's have gone to bed so at around 7:30-8pm. I have dinner afterwards.

Iggi999 · 10/10/2014 23:59

Lilyben I think I took a different approach as I just moved on each run whether I found the previous one awful or not - I don't think I repeated anything (and I was and am very unfit). It's designed to take you progressively on, you don't need to perfect one before trying the next Smile

MySpideySenseTickles · 11/10/2014 05:57

Car is too bad to drive. No running for me today.
Hopefully tomorrow when I can use Dh car. Knees and shins are still achy anyway so maybe longer rest is a good thing.

WastingMyYoungYears · 11/10/2014 17:20

Hi everyone Smile. I've been lurking since finishing the programme a couple of weeks ago - and I finally ran 5K today (I'm really pleased SmileGrin). I definitely want to do a ParkRun now.

Good luck to everyone on their way through the programme - it really is good. I didn't repeat any runs even though I found some really difficult, and often I found the next one a bit easier anyway. That said, if I had felt that I needed to repeat one or more runs, I would have.

WineBrewThanks for all of us, for getting out there and doing it Grin.

EdwiniasRevenge · 11/10/2014 18:49

Hi wasting

Did you run the full 5km or did that include walk at start at end?

lilyben I agree - try the next run you might be surprised. I just kept progressing to the next one. If I'd had a run that I couldn't complete I would have repeated that. Otherwise I just pushed on. I think that if I had got 'stuck' at a certain stage I think my morale would have disappeared. You might find that moving on is the boost you need.

EdwiniasRevenge · 11/10/2014 18:50

And actually I think I found week 3 the toughest week (is that the 3min runs?)

WastingMyYoungYears · 11/10/2014 19:34

Hi Edwinia Smile, how are you getting on? Yes, I ran all of the 5K - I only start my Garmin when I start running, then I stop it when I stop running.( I still do a 5min walk before and after of course.)
