I didn't even get to running for my gait analysis. Sweatshop stood me on a contraption that made your feet glow green at all points where they were in contact with a glass panel - which in my case is ALL OF MY FEET! Then I went to an independent and he made me roll up my trousers and walk barefoot around the shop while he followed me. Would be interesting to see myself running on slow-mo video. Blush

ScienceRocks · 26/09/2014 00:06

Happy birthday nightfall!

Loving the sound of gait analysis, though I fear it would just confirm the fact that I am horribly flat footed Confused

WastingMyYoungYears · 26/09/2014 09:00

Okay, at the risk of outing myself to my lovely physio Grin, the new stretch isn't really a new stretch, it's just a variation on an old stretch.

It's this thigh stretch, but with my toe pointing inwards, and held for 1 minute. Apparently the muscles at the front of my shin are too short, so this should lengthen them over time Smile.

ChameleonCircuit · 26/09/2014 10:14

Wasting - which stretch? The first one? There are about seven on that page! Grin

WastingMyYoungYears · 26/09/2014 10:31

Chameleon, it's the one with the slightly vague title 'thigh stretch' Grin. I think it has a fancier name on the poster at my gym.

ScienceRocks · 26/09/2014 12:30

I have finished week 4! I ran outside today too, which is definitely harder and not helped by the fact that I live at the top of a hill, so the second half of the session always tends to be going uphill. But I did it, and feel great!

I've looked ahead to week 5 and the jump doesn't look nearly as bad as between weeks 3 and 4, so I'm feeling positive.

Oh, and I'm wearing a top that I haven't worn for ages because I thought it was unflattering, but I put it on and thought it looked OK. My stomach is definitely flatter, even if the scales are stubbornly not moving.

MummySparkle · 26/09/2014 13:26

Well done science

Thanks everyone for their kind words about my failed w7 r1. Today in theory is run day, but I have nobody to watch DD whist I run and OH and I are going out when he gets in. I'm tempted to try a parkrun tomorrow, but as w7 r2 is only 25mins I won't get round in that time. Is it too soon to try the full 5k?

ScienceRocks · 26/09/2014 13:53

Mummy I don't know as I'm nowhere near Parkrunning yet, and I'm sure a more experienced hand (or feet!) will be along soon with some words of wisdom. But how do you feel about it? Would you be upset if you ended up walking some of it? Or came near the end? Or do you think you could push a little and be swept along by everyone else?

The one near me is quite hilly and also goes through woods so the ground is quite uneven and it can be quite muddy. I also know quite a few people who go. So, for me who is insecure and rubbish I would want to feel really quite confident about it before I would consider it. But I appreciate that most people are more confident than I am!

PoirotsMoustache · 26/09/2014 16:26

Hello, Wasting, and thank you.

CruCru Yes, I did feel pretty good afterwards, on a high sort of, even though my body was shouting at me!

Hello SpookySkeleton, and thank you too for the encouragement.

Nightfall, Belated Happy Birthday!

I have a question - would having 2 rest days instead of 1 make much difference? I'm supposed to be out tonight but there's a chance that I might be able to actually spend some alone time with DH, so I was wondering how good an idea it would be to go tomorrow morning instead? DH will be up at the crack of dawn anyway to go cycling, and my DS is staying with his granddad, so there'd be nothing except my lovely, comfy, warm bed to stop me from going Grin But if you much more experienced runners tell me it's best to go tonight, then I shall go. TIA!

WastingMyYoungYears · 26/09/2014 17:19

PoirotsMoustache, I think it would be fine to have an extra rest day if it fits with your plans better. And there are only 3 runs / week on the NHS C25K app, so they must be expecting you to stick in an extra rest day here or there.

WastingMyYoungYears · 26/09/2014 17:29

I just worked out that if you do C25K w/o any extra rest days, you can do it in 7.7 weeks. Hmm, maybe that accounts for my 2x over-training injuries Grin

I'm off out running soon - anyone else?

PoirotsMoustache · 26/09/2014 18:10

Wasting, thank you for your reply. I hadn't really thought that one through, had I?! All the blood from my brain has obviously gone to my legs, as they apparently need it more... Blush

Argh, please don't injure yourself any more! Enjoy your run tonight. I'll be going out tomorrow now - DH has just suggested going out for dinner.

Iggi999 · 26/09/2014 18:28

Just back from tonight's run and ran for an extra 7 mins - trying hard to make it to 5k but still not there!
Weirdly for the last 15 mins I was going faster, I seemed to be able to keep going after a very difficult (as usual) start. Feel quite weird now!
Hope everyone running tonight has fun Smile

FiveGoMadInDorset · 26/09/2014 20:21

Dotty you had the same experience as me

WastingMyYoungYears · 26/09/2014 21:23

?? PoirotsMoustache. I don't plan on picking up any more injuries! I'm following my physio's orders, honest Smile.

I had a great run - I ran 4.5K in 32 minutes I think. So, I'm getting a bit faster. I just need to keep pushing myself. I love my Garmin watch, and it's really helping me to monitor my pace. I'm going to take it easy increasing my distance though - I keep reading that you shouldn't increase by >10% per week.

MySpideySenseTickles · 27/09/2014 11:38

Ok, scary as it is ive downloaded the podcasts and app, the music is awful can you play your own?
I'm seeng the Dr on Monday and I might tell her that I'm going to try. I've lost over a stone already so want to try to get a bit fitter while Ds is at nursery.

My biggest pun intended problem is That even though ive lost some weight I'm still rather fat. (Just squeezed back into Size 20) and my boobs are a Gcup! Where do I even look for a sports bra? Black eyes are not a good look lol
I have some "sportsbras" from Asda I got when I was pregnant, they arent overly supportive though, I wear them day to day, would it be really weird (or even work) to wear two bras at once? It's what I used to to when I was karate training in my teens, between two bras and a tightly velcroed solid plastic chest guard I was pretty much wobble free!
Has anyone else started form being so big and did anyone laugh at you? I'm terrified of going out and everyone laughing at me, that's the one thing stopping me at the moment.

WastingMyYoungYears · 27/09/2014 12:06

SpideySense, I've read really good things about Shock Absorber bras, and I think that this is one area that you should get right. I only have small boobs, and seem to be getting on well with my H&M sports bras (I'm still going to buy a Shock Absorber one at some point though).

And try not to worry about going running outside - everyone feels self-conscious to begin with, but you soon stop caring so much Smile. And you'll be doing more than most other people.

MySpideySenseTickles · 27/09/2014 12:18

At my biggest I was almost 17 stone, if I attemp to run at all my belly and thighs slapped so hard it sounded like I was giving myself a round of applause! I'm 14,10 now and hopefully it'll be quieter lol.

I have an old sports bra from long before I got pregnant back when I was only an e cup, it's a DD if I could squeeze not it would that work? Or would I injure my boobies? (Can't really afford new bras since I'll need new trainers too!)

MySpideySenseTickles · 27/09/2014 12:21

It is really tough and supportive, I used to wear them at work as I had a client (care home) who would do anything to make you run so he could watch you bounce, we all wore the tightest bras we could and loose shirts!

Iggi999 · 27/09/2014 12:47

Spidery according to the mumsnet bra threads, I am a 34j. I'm sure I saw sites online that did large cup sports bras, but I wanted a cheap one to start with so got one from Sainsburys - I've gone up a size (36 I think) and just got the biggest cup size available. It has been fine so far, it is not my boobs I notice when running just my legs! No one has laughed at me running. I am wearing loose clothes (no shorts!) and I don't run past many teenagers, thankfully! Have never had comments.

DottyDot · 27/09/2014 13:37

Mummy how did your park run go - did you do it this morning? Hope it went OK!

I did a great gym work out today, devised by a friend at work. Really enjoyed doing different stuff rather than straight running. Came out feeling really good - although it wouldn't have burned off as many calories. Hopefully though I'm strengthening my core, which I really need - tried to do a plank the other day and could only hold it for precisely 1 second...Blush

dp and I are going to do another park run 2 weeks today, so it'll be back to running 5K for me next week and in the meantime I'm loving the cycling and new gym routine. Hurrah! Grin

ChameleonCircuit · 27/09/2014 14:19

Spidey - Last time I got weighed I was 17 stone. Can't get weighed now, scales don't work, but my arms no longer bash into my hips when I walk, I've gone onto the tightest hole on my belt and the jeans are baggy around the bum and thighs. Grin My sports bra is from Bravissimo, couldn't get along with the Shock Absorber ones. I'm a 36HH. I also found that getting some proper supportive running capris stops the belly slapping around.

magicalmrmistofelees · 27/09/2014 15:23

Also I still have a stone of baby weight to lose and hoping this will help!

MummySparkle · 27/09/2014 17:15

No parkrun in the end, forgot I had to walk a dog (OH runs a dog walking business). I was going to take her for a run, but then OH said he wanted to walk with me so I got dressed in normal clothes. The he 'suggested' that I should run with the dogs, despite me asking if I could all morning... Grr!

Right now I am at home and utterly exhausted in bed. New medication is really taking it's toll. I should go for a run though.

I have a shock absorber bra. There's one that does big sizes, think it's ultimate run bra? I have the run bra in a 38F. I have g cup boobs and it's been fab for me. (To be honest anything has got to be better than these crappy nursing bras! I need to go bra shopping, but I'm so lopsided as dd only will feed from one side I wouldn't know what size to get...)

Hope everyone who has run today had fun x

dizzyday07 · 27/09/2014 19:53

After a fortnight of not running I covered 4.4k in 47 minutes tonight. My left knee has been giving me jip all week but it was fine when I was running.

I have started going to a Box Fit class on a Monday which is circuits with additional boxing. It's great to have gloves back on as it's been @8 years since I was a Brown Belt in Kickboxing!

I am 19 stone so if I can run anybody can - even though I am as slow as a slug with a zimmer frame
