I think we should stay here, with C25K being the main topic that brings us together, but with diversions wherever they take us. Its part of being a social group that the conversation just flows. I left the C25K threads for a bit, browsed through occasionally, and think you lot are lovely, and so ahve stuck around. But you can retire me if you want??

Iggi - stamina is HARD. Try the other two first!

spookyskeleton · 23/09/2014 19:26

addicted my thoughts exactly Smile I joined both post-natal groups on here for DS1 & 2 and the talk/chatter was about all sorts of stuff, not just about our DC who happened to all be born in the same month.

Having to walk is not a failure, some days are just harder than others and I think learning to recognise and accept that is key to training.

CruCru · 23/09/2014 21:27

Well quite. We could all be sitting inside eating doughnuts.

We're staying Grin I just didn't want to annoy people with my constant chat Like in real life

Yoga was great today - we did lots of spirally things which I think is quite a good antidote to running (which must be linear). I like the stamina podcast - having 35 mins seems more relaxed to me. Ooh I ran up the big hill I live on yesterday after the speed podcast. That's all my news I think!

WastingMyYoungYears · 23/09/2014 22:27

I'm staying too Smile, if I may.

CruCru · 23/09/2014 22:40

Cool! I'm going to stick around.

Is anyone else really looking forward to it getting colder and not being so muggy when they run? I want to wear a long sleeved top, am already in long running tights.

DottyDot · 23/09/2014 22:45

Iggi definitely not a fail! You did a run which is always an achievement..!

I'm staying too - love this thread - even if it means confessing I missed my day 3 abs challenge as I've been out Blush

DottyDot · 23/09/2014 22:48

Oooh I have no long sleeved running tips at all... At the moment I just run in tshirts (and tracksuit bottoms!). I can't imagine being cold enough to need to wear something with sleeves but if it's a shopping opportunity.... Grin

DottyDot · 23/09/2014 22:48

Doh! tops, obv...

Iggi999 · 23/09/2014 23:18

I always run in sleeves, sometimes sleeves and an anorak!
Thanks for the encouragement re the podcast. I do think if you feel you are heading for an injury you need to slow down. I'm still amazed I can run at all!

CruCru · 23/09/2014 23:23

Are you in the UK Dotty? I'm already a bit chilly first thing in the morning.

ScienceRocks · 24/09/2014 07:28

I'm cold blooded so have been running in trousers, t shirt and hoodie.

Glad you experienced c25kers are staying. You give us rookies great advice and encouragement, which I know I am very grateful for.

Today I have week 4 run 2. My legs are still aching after Monday so I might do it on the treadmill instead of outside (though I feel bad for the dog).

ScienceRocks · 24/09/2014 09:44

Week 4 run 2 done, but on the treadmill and with the school run as my warm up walk as I am pushed for time today. The first runs were hard, but it oddly got easier as I went on and I even managed to speed up a little towards the end.

Off for a shower now I've finally stopped sweating!

revels in flatter stomach but curses scales for not moving

stilllearnin · 24/09/2014 12:23

Science well done - this is a great bit of the c25k - I really felt I was getting somewhere in week 4. I am currently giving up weighing myself. I start off doing it out of curiosity and then get hooked on the stupid numbers, hoping, speculating etc. I am overweight but I'm fairly healthy at the minute

ChameleonCircuit · 24/09/2014 16:17

Has anyone experienced shin splints? Ran fast on Sunday, they've been painful since, and today I had to walk a couple of times as it was hurting so much. Sad when I'm running it feels like someone is bashing my shins with a plank! and I'm sitting here with a dull ache in both shins.

MummySparkle · 24/09/2014 17:52

Week 7 r1 was not happening for me today :(

It's very disheartening when your "running" companion weighs about the same as you and is wearing a fur coat just saunters along beside you (okay so he has 4 legs, but still he could have looked like he was trying!)

I only managed 16mins of it. I've just started some new meds and they're making me so tired it was an effort to lift my feet. I feel a bit flat, so I'm taking the dog out for a long walk later to try and make up for my 9mins of non-running

DottyDot · 24/09/2014 17:54

well done Science!

Chameleon no I haven't had shin splints - sounds horrible... Is it about warming up more before you start running? Fingers crossed they ease up and you're back to normal soon.

I cycled into work today - first time in a long time and it's 10 miles in total and I found it so much easier than the last time I did it - am really pleased Smile. So although I'm not a natural runner (understatement of the century) I'm definitely fitter - hurrah!

WastingMyYoungYears · 24/09/2014 18:46

Ouch, Chameleon, I think I have shin splints (a shin splint?) affecting one of my legs - I'm seeing a physio tomorrow, so I'll let you know how that goes.

Iggi999 · 24/09/2014 19:20

Mummysparkle - 16 mins might not be what you wanted to achieve, but it is 16 mins away from being on the couch, so don't forget it is a success!
The only times I've had that sore shin feeling were during week one and yesterday when I was trying to run faster. I think speed might be the culprit.

Iggi999 · 24/09/2014 19:21

... Not that I know, just guessing!

DottyDot · 24/09/2014 19:56

Cru yes I'm up north in Manchester, but still boiling hot after about 30 seconds of running..! Grin

PoirotsMoustache · 24/09/2014 20:12

Hi all. Do you mind if I join? I did the first session on Monday evening - W1R1 I think, according to your shorthand! I found it really hard as I haven't run for more than 10 seconds since about 1998, and I'm over 6 stone overweight, so I was dragging a lot of lard around. But I did it, and weirdly enjoyed it, despite the stitches in both sides, lack of ability to breathe and the certainty I was causing a mini-earthquake!

I actually got my arse out of bed at 5 this morning and did W1R2, which I think shocked everyone who knows me, not least of all me. I think my running pace was a fit person's medium-brisk walk, but I was still moving faster than I have in a long time, and again I didn't give up, so I'm really pleased. Again, it was hellish but great - how does that work?!

Anyway, sorry for waffling on. I promise I won't do it every time I post!

addictedtosugar · 24/09/2014 20:34

Chameleon rest, ice, I strapped mine at work to help support, and stretch your toes up and down as much as you can bare. It worked for me. Someone up-thread described it as "good toes, naughty toes" from their ballet days. I could only do a few initially, but now (maintenance exercises) can do maybe a dozen stretches a couple to times a day, whilst weight bearing. I ended up resting about 2 weeks, and then doing some walking sessions before jogging again. Hope they get better soon.

Welcome PoirotsMoustache The advice I had re stitches was to drink a glass of water before running. You've done the hardest run - the first. I agree its strange that you can dislike something at the time, but feel so positive afterwards. Enjoy your running journey.

PoirotsMoustache · 24/09/2014 20:56

Thank you addicatedtosugar, I'll bear the water tip in mind. I have just been breathing through them, but will try water before my run on Friday.
