He is good for something Grin actually he's good for a lot and I'm very lucky.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 12/09/2014 21:27

Grin At gentle 5k run

I need to sort out music, I gave friends who are runners and need to get some hints from them, I like the idea if running to a book though

ifancyagreencard · 12/09/2014 22:07

W2R3 done but have knackered the back of my heel. Ouch Ouch Ouch - seriously hoping it's not Achilles related. Popping into the physio next door to work tomorrow for them to check it out- making it worse with W3R1 is not what I need. Bugger.
Well done everyone who's done well this week. I've downloaded some musicals (yes, a bit sad) - am running to Joseph and Evita. Lloyd Webber Central . . Grin

stilllearnin · 12/09/2014 22:59

Ooh musicals are not a bad idea! (good luck with your ankle may all be ok yet). I used to run to the more or less podcast!

ScienceRocks · 13/09/2014 08:27

Ouch greencard. Hope it is ok.

Right, my preferred running music mostly seems to come from 7yo dd1's playlist:

Shine by take that
The boy does nothing by Aleesha Dixon
Girlfriend by Avril lavigne
Wave your flag by knaan (sp?)

But others that also seem to work that are also on my ipod are:

Black by pearl jam
Dream on by Aerosmith
One by U2
Bittersweet symphony by the verve

And for my cool down walk, I love your song from moulin rouge!

I chanced upon one song that suited my running pace a couple of weeks ago, so checked it's bpm online and found others that vaguely matched it. I would love to listen to podcasts but I find it too difficult to manage the dog if I do that, whereas music (on a low volume) with Laura cutting in is fine.

ScienceRocks · 13/09/2014 08:27

Oh, and dog days by Florence and the machine!

ifancyagreencard · 13/09/2014 09:35

Grrrr have done my Achilles. Reactive tendinopathy, so that's me on rest, ice and, bizarrely, high heeled shoes for a week. Physio says it's probably gone to my ankle because my core muscles are weak (no shit, Sherlock)! So I am facing the joy of a full session to determine JUST how unfit I am LOL.

Oh well, off to do the housework looking like a Stepford Wife in white high heeled mules . . .

Good luck everyone else - enjoy!

ScienceRocks · 13/09/2014 09:36

Boo greencard Sad High heels, you say? Eek.

primarynoodle · 13/09/2014 09:49

ahhh greencard I feel your pain...

I have shin splints :( so upset I was doing so well! Angry

ifancyagreencard · 13/09/2014 10:12

Me too, noodle. I loathe exercise and had finally found something that I both liked and could fit into a mega busy life. Physio adamant that running is OK for me in the long run, it's definitely not a case of giving up. Despite what the NHS says about C25K being for anyone, the physio did point out that going from bugger all to high impact exercise, even on a gentle programme, will inevitably cause injuries in some people. What's the score with your shin splints? Have you had to stop too?? I've just cycled back from taking the car in for service. Not far, but at least I've done something - are you allowed to cycle?

primarynoodle · 13/09/2014 11:03

well I started road running last year and they were terrible... so I swam for a while then now started running on a treadmill thinking its lower impact but clearly not :/

dont know atm I will rest and ice this weekend and see how it goes on monday.. need to do some strength training in my legs Sad Sad glad you can cycle ok.. mine got to the point where they only didnt hurt in the pool!

stilllearnin · 13/09/2014 11:16

Green card - do you mind me asking which core muscles? Does s/he mean your tummy etc?

WastingMyYoungYears · 13/09/2014 13:18

Oh no, bad luck greencard Confused. Hopefully you can continue with some other forms of exercise in the meantime.

noodle, I think I might have shin splints too. I'm controlling with pre-run ibuprofen and post-run ice (when I feel I need them) at the moment. Actually, when my knee was really bad, I admitted to my physio that I was having to take ibuprofen pre-run (and sometimes post-run, and on rest days Blush) - I thought he'd say to stop running etc, but he just said that it wasn't much and that it was only ibuprofen Grin. I disagree a bit, but I was glad to be able to keep running in the meantime.

ChameleonCircuit · 13/09/2014 14:08

I went out to a PTA thing last night, came back to discover that DH has ordered me a Garmin Forerunner 110 from eBay. ?? I think I'll keep him.

addictedtosugar · 13/09/2014 17:23

Cake for those with shin splints.
Honestly, please don't try to run on them til recovered. Mine took me out for 2 weeks.
Best thing I found was a random internet "cure" of rotating your feet as far as they can go (like beckoning someone, not circles). I've kept that up since recovery, and haven't had a repeat yet.

Thinking about trying a short run tomorrow, but still coughing and exhausted. Not sure....

ifancyagreencard · 13/09/2014 17:41

stillearnin - only had a quick session with the physio - they fitted me in as I work next door! So she's not got down and dirty with establishing quite how weak and flabby I am LOL. But she said that weakness "above" will often result in ankles / feet taking the strain. So she wants to look at my tummy, hip and lower back muscles (or lack of) and give me an easy programme to get them strengthening to run alongside the C25K programme in an effort to minimise further running injuries. I blame Laura - I was doing fine until W2 when I started really concentrating on heel hitting the floor first according to her instructions. That's when my trouble started Grin.

EdwiniasRevenge · 14/09/2014 09:47

W7r2 done.

Hated evwry minute today.

Is it me or is r2 each week always the hardest?

KiaOraOAotearoa · 14/09/2014 10:41

greencard, that's exactly where I am at. Extremely painful knees. I only run once this week, W2R1, but I am worried I will only make it worse :(
I'll keep up with the shred and hopefully it'll get better :)

ChameleonCircuit · 14/09/2014 10:42

Yes, I found that too. You don't have the mental excuse of "it's my first time doing this" but you're not yet comfortable doing that run/ walk sequence.

spookyskeleton · 14/09/2014 11:03

Yes, am sure it is psychological as the 'middle' run.

Well, I did 12.5k this morning Smile Smile no idea how and the last couple of kilometres were so hard. Thankfully I was running with others who dragged me through. Took me 1 hour 42 minutes but I cannot believe I ran continuously for that length of time. Go me Wink Grin

ChameleonCircuit · 14/09/2014 11:38

Go you, indeed, Spooky!

Iggi999 · 14/09/2014 11:46

W9r3 done
Grin
Bit disappointed as for me it's couch- to-4k, nowhere near five! But then I remembered how I thought I was going to die during w1r1.

Iggi999 · 14/09/2014 11:46

Spooky I am in awe!

spookyskeleton · 14/09/2014 12:01

iggi the group that I did my C25k with started running to distance at about week 7 so people ran 5k n whatever time it took them rather than for the 28 minutes. Give it a try as you will be able to do it (probably take you another 7-8 minutes) but I am sure you have already found out that once you get into your stride, you can probably carry on anyway so just do it until you get to 5k Smile

WastingMyYoungYears · 14/09/2014 13:43

Well done Iggi Smile, that's a huge achievement. I think I'll be running ~4km when I finish C25K too.
