Right, what exercise should I do about my fat tummy?

I'm doing C25K at the moment, but think I should be doing something to focus on my tummy as well... I was wondering about an exercise DVD, or maybe a class (although that's a bit trickier)?

Following. Serious post baby wobble.

Hi make Smile.

I wondered about the Shred, but someone on the C25K thread said that it wasn't really what I'm looking for Grin. Thank goodness.

something like powerhoop (weighted hula hoop) will target that area. It has slimmed my waist and hips and I also had to downsize my bra back size due to its toning effect.

makeminea6x · 16/08/2014 11:35

I'm hopeless at hula hooping. Bit dyspraxic.

ilovepowerhoop · 16/08/2014 12:04

it took me weeks if not months to master it but it is easier with a weighted hoop than the lightweight hoops you would use as a child.

WastingMyYoungYears · 16/08/2014 13:13

I need results fast though Grin, I don't have time to learn to hula hoop.

Okay, I'll look into it Smile. How big are power hoops?

you might find a class in your area or you can buy one for use in your own home (they are big though). There are non branded weighted hoops you can get that are a bit cheaper.

www.powerhoop.co.uk/classes - to see if there are any classes

Any other suggestions? I'd love something I can just do in front of the TV Blush on my rest days.

The plank. I do boot camp style classes and they do a lot of planks and that's what toned my tummy. I haven't really got my waist back but do pretty much have a 6 pack. Try something like the 30 day challenge, there's a 30 day ab challenge as well.

MistressMouse · 16/08/2014 16:53

Yep, agree with previous poster. Planks all the way!

Sirzy · 16/08/2014 16:56

I powerhoop at home in front of the tv. Expect bruises at first though!

I tend to do 20-30 mins hooping, then 10 mins of crunches/plank/squats etc 3 or 4 nights a week

WastingMyYoungYears · 17/08/2014 11:36

I've bought a couple of exercise DVDs Smile, wah!

I do a lot of planks. How long am i supposed to hold it for? At the moment i'm holding it for 20 secs, probably could do more though.

WastingMyYoungYears · 19/08/2014 17:38

I don't actually know what a plank is BlushGrin.

30dayfitnesschallenges.com/30-day-plank-challenge/#_ - how about the 30 day plank challenge

WastingMyYoungYears · 19/08/2014 18:32

I used youtube to educate myself. I'm going to do planks Smile.

Planks and other bodyweight exercises. Have a look at Body by You by Mark Lauren for a really simple progression of bodyweight exercises that you can just do it in front of the tv.

"Its a common misconception that a flat stomach can be acheived through simple stomach exercises alone like endless crunches or planks. The reality is that a flat stomach can only be achieved by reducing intra-abdominal body fat through cardio fat burning exercises and a calorie-controlled diet." source: www.motivatept.co.uk

WastingMyYoungYears · 21/08/2014 16:52

miranda, I'm doing C25K as well - does that count?

C25K will be good for your cardiovascular fitness, but burns very few calories. You do need to lose fat all over, and the most effective way to do that is to eat properly, and so strength training.

buffersandbumpers · 21/08/2014 19:37

Planks. If you can do 20secs that's a good start, but only increase if your 'form' is correct and you haven't started to dip your back or push your bum up.
Wider feet make it easier.
Make sure you keep your belly button pulled in, butt cheeks clenched and face looking at the floor.
Side plank will do also do wonders.
Eat healthily, or eat less, drink lots of water. Jillian Michaels 30 day shred once you've got a strong core will sort the last bits out. Oh, and I do a 30mins abs class once a week at the gym.
I started in Jan very slowly with planks as had no strength in my core, then started 30 Day Shred in May. Pleased with current state of tummy tbh but it's taken time and hard work.

AnythingNotEverything · 21/08/2014 19:46

And your good old pelvic floor exercises too!
