I am considering getting one of those weighted hula hoops to target my problem middle.

Anyone got any recommendations, tips or stories to inspire me?

I have an Anion Hoop-1 (via Amazon.) Red and white, with knobbles, in 8 segments - so it can be taken apart for carrying.

I adore mine. Though too often from a sorrowful distance. Very enjoyable to use and I'm sure it would be brilliantly effective if I visited it more often.

It's particularly good for "core"(?) strength > being able to walk elegantly in heels.

I must admit I glimpsed your post a few days ago but was rushing out and thought hundreds of people would reply!

You can get DVDs as well. Perhaps if I'd bought one I wouldn't be so lazy. I am always singing the praises of weighted hoops.

The one at Argos (but not the Davina one) is pretty good. I don't use mine so much any more but it is great for toning up the waist with no real risk of injury.
