Fair enough. Your Strava buddies should be giving you kudos though - and you them. Grin

WastingMyYoungYears · 30/07/2014 21:05

Thanks Chameleon Smile.

Edwinias, I found it okay overall - some of the 1min runs seemed okay, and others seemed harder somewhat randomly though. I ran a loop this time, which was better than an out and back.

I know it's crazy, but I'm looking forward to trying to run for longer than a minute Confused.

PrivateBenjamin · 30/07/2014 21:34

Hello All, please can I join? My weight has been creeping up ever since I quit smoking in December. I did the 30 Day Shred regularly from mid-April to mid-July, but after 45 Shred days in that time (roughly every other day) I'd put half a stone on and went up a trouser size. Confused C25K is my last hope! before having to give up biscuits

I have my clothes out all ready for 6am tomorrow, I have to leave for work at 7.10 so need to go that early. I bought myself an arm strap thing to hold my phone and I have some comfortable trainers. I worry that people will laugh at me stumbling along, or that i'll fall, but I need to do this. I want to be healthy and I know i'll love running once I get over the first, unfit part.

I will come back tomorrow once I've done it. Please harangue me across the boards if I don't! Grin

ChameleonCircuit · 30/07/2014 21:48

Welcome PrivateBenjamin. Do we have to name change to CaptDoreenLewis and yell at you in a military fashion? Grin

PrivateBenjamin · 30/07/2014 22:14

Thanks chameleon and yes, please scream at me 'til I discover a plucky, can-do attitude!

spookyskeleton · 31/07/2014 07:27

Welcome private hope the run went well this morning. Keep posting on here and we will help you Smile

crucru glad you are back running again.

Well, another achievement for me last night. There is a 1km hill by my house - it is not overly steep but it goes on and upwards forever!! Last time I tried running up it, I got about a third of the wsy up....last night, I got all the way to the top without stopping and it felt good Grin

Crikey Spooky!! I'm impressed! Go, you. Grin

PrivateBenjamin · 31/07/2014 08:37

I did it! It wasn't as hard as I thought (though I was red faced and sweating when I got home) and I managed to run all the run parts. I did 3.53km according to mapmyrun. I also discovered that a road I have been driving on for over a year is actually uphill and not flat like I supposed, who'da thunk?

One of the main things that encouraged me to get out of bed was the thought of having to come back here and explain myself, so that was great motivation. I will definitely keep coming back and boring you all to death logging my runs. It's so motivational to read everybody's stories. Smile

Does anybody do stretching after the run? Should I do it, or is the 5 minute cool down walk enough?

CruCru · 31/07/2014 09:06

Thanks Chameleon and Spooky! Yes it was the 3 minute run.

That's awesome, running up hills is hard work.

CruCru · 31/07/2014 09:07

Hi PrivateBenjamin! Come and tell us how it went.

ChameleonCircuit · 31/07/2014 10:17

Well done PrivateBenjamin! Now you've done one run, there's no excuse for not doing another! Grin

EdwiniasRevenge · 31/07/2014 11:02

Well done private

I'll be here with my boring run logs too. I find it motivational to keep a log of how far/long I was running.

I'll be doing W1R2 later today when it cools down. I did W1R1 a couple of days ago and covered 2.9km so trying to beat that today :).

Whatsthatnoise · 31/07/2014 11:40

I did a w3 run today while dd was at gymnastics, it felt fab to be back just wished I hadn't bottled it and did w5 like I should be on Grin

addictedtosugar · 31/07/2014 12:13

Well done to all those who have been putting on trainers for the first time - you've done the hardest run!

Yes, I need to stretch afterwards, or I really know about it the following day. I found some ideas on the NHS website, but needed to add in standing on one leg with the other leg curled up as far as possible iyswim? I don't do any of the sitting / lying down stretches the NHS show tho.

WastingMyYoungYears · 31/07/2014 12:56

Can someone please link to some useful stretches? Thank you Smile!

EdwiniasRevenge · 31/07/2014 14:10

I do the stretches for runners on the NHS website and they work for me. I know about it the next day if I skip them.

except I don't do ITB and hamstring as I can't actually work out what I'm supposed to be doing.

EdwiniasRevenge · 31/07/2014 18:31

W1R2 done

3.3km covered.

I feel I could do a longer session but I'm ready to stop running at the end of the 60secs tho.

WastingMyYoungYears · 31/07/2014 19:05

Thanks Edwinias, I'll check them out later.

Moleyjay · 31/07/2014 21:02

Feeling proud of myself and I know you'll be pleased for me... I've just done week 5 run 3 ( 20mins no walk) whoop whoop! Didn't think I'd do it but you know what? It wasn't that bad!

addictedtosugar · 31/07/2014 21:07

these are the ones I was on about. I don't do the lying down ones, or the IBT.

Edwinias I would do the hamstrings straight from the hip flexor. After the first stretch, shift your weight onto your back leg, and straighten your front knee. Lean forwards slightly if you need to to get the stretch. Then I switch front leg, and do hip and hamstrings on the other side. Does that help at all?

DottyDot · 31/07/2014 21:57

Forgive me C25K-ers for I have sinned (and will continue to sin until Saturday...). Am camping in Glasgow at the moment and have reverted to eating crap and drinking red wine in the evenings just to get through it all...

Feeling suddenly very unfit and crap - have stopped drinking water due to not wanting to wee every 5 minutes in the portaloos...!

Sigh. Tell me it will all be OK when I get back. Am struggling with not being in my new and improved routine!

Kasterborous · 31/07/2014 23:07

You'll be fine when you get back Dotty I think it actually helps when you realise how rubbish you feel when you go back to eating crap, that you want to avoid it. I also think a week off running sometimes helps as it gives your joints and muscles time to repair and I bet your first run back on it will be great. Grin

LaughingM · 31/07/2014 23:19

Dotty, you've come such a long way I'm sure you'll slot right back into it when you get back home. So in the mean time, enjoy the camping and the wine!!

Molejay, well done!! Such a big hurdle to overcome. Good work to everyone else who has been running today.

I feel a little bit silly. I went running with a marathon-running friend earlier and just couldn't get into a rhythm and kept having to take walking breaks, way more often than I have done for ages in my running. I'm cross with myself because I knew we were going much faster than I normally do and that's why I couldn't pace myself properly, but I feel a bit embarrassed about how hard I was finding it in comparison to my friend Blush.

ChameleonCircuit · 01/08/2014 00:02

Yay, well done Moleyjay. I'm stressing about that - due to do it on Sunday.

CruCru · 01/08/2014 12:15

Woohoo! w3R2 completed. I am bright red and sweaty but I feel amazing.
