Well done SpookyGrin . No run for me till tomorrow, I just can't fit a run into work days no childcare Sad I was itching to go yesterday.
Aiming to do one more W4 run then move on. I want to go donate blood tomorrow too so I need to make time to run first. DP better be home for a decent time

flashnorman · 16/07/2014 07:22

Wow Spooky! That's amazing! You will smash that 10k race now Grin

Nightfall1983 · 16/07/2014 09:16

Joining the thread with a bit of a moan - sorry.

I started the c25k last week, am very unfit and overweight but struggle to fit in exercise around my 22 month old and decided to give it a go.

Did all 3 week 1 runs with varying degrees of difficult but was feeling positive going into w2r1 yesterday, managed it but finished with a largish burst blister on one foot and seem to have badly hurt the other foot near the arch - hurts to out weight on it. Feeling severely disheartened :(

ChameleonCircuit · 16/07/2014 13:37

Nightfall - have you been for a gait analysis? The right supportive trainers can make a HUGE difference. Plus I've heard good things about Compeed plasters for blisters. Don't give up, this is merely a blip on your path to being a runner. (From a fellow unfit fatty)

Nightfall1983 · 16/07/2014 14:43

Thanks Chameleon, I'm aware I have a terrible gait even when walking and worse when running. Where would I get an analysis done and would it cost a fortune?

I've been running in a pair of my mums trainers since I don't own any but I guess it's time to invest - we are the same size in theory but my feet are much wider.

I have a compeed plaster on the blister and it's fine, suspect it would hurt to run with though. My left foot isn't as bad as I'd feared, still sore but hopefully won't last...

CruCru · 16/07/2014 15:28

Hi Nightfall

Do you live anywhere near a Runners Need?

They will do it for free but will then sell you a pair of trainers. I would book though.

CruCru · 16/07/2014 15:33

I did W2R2 today, it was a bit hot but I now feel fantastic.

My brother has recommended a Garmin Forerunner 220. I think it is a bit early for me to buy one of those (he runs half marathons) but when I finish, I might treat myself to one.

DottyDot · 16/07/2014 17:46

Spooky you're a star!! Fantastic stuff Grin

Meanwhile I'm proper poorly with temperature, swollen glands, cough, so am not going to the gym tonight Sad. It's the first run I've had to miss and I'm gutted, but feeling really rotten so I'll have to give it a miss. Hoping it goes quickly though - might squeeze a run in tomorrow with a bit of luck..!

ChameleonCircuit · 16/07/2014 18:16

I went to SweatShop at Xscape in Castleford. I didn't even have to run, they have a machine you stand on that shows what parts of your foot are in contact with the ground (in my case everything - I have completely flat feet). He didn't try to sell me any trainers but told me what I needed and suggested some makes/models. I then went to an independent running shop and tried on LOADS until I found the comfiest.

ChameleonCircuit · 16/07/2014 18:16

Hope you feel better soon, Dotty

FiveGoMadInDorset · 16/07/2014 20:07

In hospital with DD will restart when she is out. I really need to get a gait analyses done

CruCru · 16/07/2014 20:12

I hope your DD is better soon.

addictedtosugar · 16/07/2014 20:20

dotty sorry to hear your suffering. Can I suggest you leave it one day longer than you think you need to recover before you run again still hasn't learn't through experience

Nightfall you can do a crude analysis home and then buy shoes appropriate for your foot.

Also, have you got running socks - mine are shaped like a shoe - so they have a L and R on them. I got them in sports direct for less than £5. Worth thinking about. Hope the compeed helps soon.

addictedtosugar · 16/07/2014 20:21

opps, corrected link at home

DottyDot · 16/07/2014 21:00

Ooh addicted that link's really interesting! I've definitely got a flat/low arch - in fact I didn't realise you could make other types of footprints until reading this tonight Blush. I really need new trainers - our local Decathlon's got a gait analysis machine so I must go sometime.

I'm really missing doing my run - am feeling fat and lazy already..! But if I still feel crap tomorrow I won't go Sad. It's not right to have a cold in the summer!

five hope your daughter's doing OK - are you staying over in hospital too? Hope you've got good wifi and decent food!

Whatsthatnoise · 17/07/2014 14:13

I declined an offer to go for cake to go for a run instead I don't think I even know who I am anymore Grin

Attempted W5R1 stopped a bit short not good Sad Going to cheer myself up by going to donate blood Grin

Whatsthatnoise · 17/07/2014 15:35

tip of the day, don't donate blood after running. 1 pint in less than 4 min I had to really concentrate on not puking Shock plenty of Biscuit though

ChameleonCircuit · 17/07/2014 16:26

Whatsthatnoise they won't have mine, but I imagine that it wasn't such a good idea!

MirandaWest · 17/07/2014 16:29

Hope no one minds me posting here - I seem to start and stop running quite a bit but trying to get back into it at the moment. Currently doing week 4 of couch to 5k which I am perfectly capable of although going slower than I'd like. Will try and keep at it though :)

CruCru · 17/07/2014 17:40

Hi Miranda! Nice to meet you.

My goodness Whatsthatnoise, that is a fast blood donation. Do they still get you to drink a pint of water beforehand? They won't have mine either (received blood transfusion).

CruCru · 17/07/2014 18:10

I've been feeling guilty today. It is a rest day (which I am supposed to have) and it is very hot and humid. I met a friend for lunch and had an oreo milkshake. Hey ho, I'll run again on Saturday (can't tomorrow).

Whatsthatnoise · 17/07/2014 18:22

I'm usually on the slow side too. I've never been asked to drink water and this was my 15th donation.

CruCru · 17/07/2014 22:36

Well, thanks for making the effort to donate (particularly if you are O-). I only managed to donate 8 or 9 times then I wasn't allowed to any more.

Whatsthatnoise · 17/07/2014 22:53

I am o- which I think is the main reason I donate so regularly. I love it I don't really get the same sense of achievement from anything else Grin it makes me feel proud > Grin

MooseyMouse · 17/07/2014 23:11

Whatsthatnoise - well done for donating. I've received blood too and feel really grateful to people like you. So thanks!
