Can anyone recommend a pull up bar to buy?

Am on amazon and feeling Confused . I'm doing P90X and need to get one. Have a victorian house with thickish door frames so not sure if the removable ones will fit on my doors. Was thinking about maybe a wall mounted one but they range from £12 - £60, very confused as to what to go to and worried they won't take my weight

has anyone got one they could recommend? or somewhere to go or look for one?

I came on here to ask the same question! Someone must know!

Do you know how hard it is to do a body weight pull up? I go to a HIIT gym and only one woman can do them, the rest of us use bands that we put our foot or knee in to help propel us up a bit. Grin

ahem, yes turn it's going to be difficult. I've been practicing on the monkey bars at the playground Blush and I can't do it at all, but there's an easier modification on the dvd involving a chair so you don't lift your whole weight, so I'm assuming I'll be doing that version for a good long while!

If you can get the bands, they are great, not sure what they are called though,I'll have a look around

I can do two (at local playground) but it nearly kills me. I do a fair amount of circuits etc. They are hard! Good luck :-)

Well, you have to start somewhere! I started insanity and couldn't do one push up but now I can Grin

I just got a cheap one from Argos, the ends screw into the door frame but you can take the bar off at any time. A bar's a bar at the end of the day.

I couldn't do any pull ups at one point, but now can manage 5 proper ones, and can sometimes get it up to ten when I practice a lot.

Ahh you see the DVD I've got do lots of different types of pull ups so I think I need a relatively fancy one with different bits to hold in different places Confused [utterly useless] so I'm guessing just a bar might be too basic???

If you can't even do a pull up I don't see how 'just a bar' can possibly be too basic for you.

If you need to hold the bar in different places just hold the bar in different places. How fancy can a pull up be?!

notyummy · 24/06/2014 18:25

Agree reastie- its always hard when you start!

I think it's one if those fitness things I have filed under 'too hard'!

I am not a wimp though- can do 50 press ups :-)

over they seem to do all sorts of lifts using different arm angles with hands in different positions, not necessarily just pull up and down IYKWIM.
