Inspire me back to running please

I did couch25k last autumn and started doing Parkrun (went 5 times). The last time was ironically on New Years Day!

January was mad busy with a holiday and DH working away lots, then the weather in February and March was atrocious and I didn't run for over 3 months. I got back up to running for 28 minutes in April, but have let that go again and have only run about 3 times since then (for 20 minutes with a break after 10).

Before Christmas I was quite enjoying my running but I seem to have lost that now. We're mad busy with work, after school and out of school clubs for our ds's and DH works away occasionally but I'm planning on running Race for Life next month so really need to get back to running.

Please inspire me!

Gah! I've done the same thing.

Buuuuuut I'm getting back into it. I've remembered I actually like it. Revamp of music on my iPhone helped a lot.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 12/06/2014 22:34

Where did you get your music from?

I'm planning in going back to couch25k, start at week 5 maybe but the music really is pretty dull!

I've found spotify, but I'm too tight to pay for the premium service where I could use it offline!

I think knowing that I need to squeeze a run in after ds's swimming lessons before DH and I eat, or quickly while ds2 is at cubs is making me feel more resistant. But realistically it's the only exercise that can be done around everything else so I need to find a way back.

I have done the same,I did a 10k last year and then lost motivation.

I need to get back out and doing it but am worried how hard I will find it... I do cycle or walk 12 miles a day on the school run with toddler in bike seat or pushchair so am hoping that has helped my fitness level..

MissSmiley · 12/06/2014 22:39

I'm with you. I loved NHS c25k but I'm missing the programme. I found the 5k+ podcasts but not really inspired. I think I might search out the 5 to 10k ones. Just have to get up earlier to fit it in. I need to be aiming for something I think.

Have you thought about training for a specific event?

MissSmiley · 12/06/2014 22:40

Hey, 5madthings I also have 5 mad things!

MissSmiley · 12/06/2014 22:41

Are you sticking with 5? I'm wondering if 6 might be good???

MiconiumHappens · 12/06/2014 22:42

I know it's boring advice but it has to be a priority or it will get bumped by everything else. Early morning runs work best for me or lunchtime if not, I'm crap in the evening.

Searching Pinterest for running motivation also helps me.

I've just been paying for the music Shock ha ha I'm boring myself here!

Ive also started mixing up running with swimming and cross training.

5madthings · 12/06/2014 22:42

I used the zenlabs 5-10k bridge app and trained for the London bupa 10k. It was great for motivation as I knew I had to do it... I signed up in a fit of drunken madness. Clearly I need to get drunk and sign myself up for another run!

AnyoneForTennis · 12/06/2014 22:42

Half marathon in the autumn? I did my first in May so have a pB to work with now

New running gear for motivation?

5madthings · 12/06/2014 22:44

I think we will stick with five but I am broody as hell!

Would llove another but dp would need persuading! We aren't ruling it out completely, Dow doesn't want to get the snip and I am 35 so we have a bit of time to think about it.

cece · 12/06/2014 22:45

Endorphin high. Enough said.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 12/06/2014 22:48

DH leaves for work by 7am and there's no way I'd be up early enough to eat something, leave a gap to let it go down, run and be back in time.

I have tried running in the mornings a couple of times before eating but felt like I just had no energy. I don't know if me having autoimmune hypothyroidism has anything to do with that, but it felt like my energy taks were empty.

I think I need to look at each week and schedule in when I'm going to run in advance and stick to it. Even twice a week would be better than nothing.

Race for life has to be my goal for now. I was avoiding going from 5-10k because I was worried that increasing the length and time of my runs would make it even less likely that I'd go out. Perhaps I might need to rethink that after race for life.

Hmmm yup that makes morning running a no go then. Is DH helping you to fit it in?

MissSmiley · 12/06/2014 23:08

I find running makes me more tired after a gap but if I don't run I feel lacking in energy Confused
We are really stuck on five kids but I am 41. Dh would love another but I'm not so sure. At the moment I'd love another but all ours were IVF apart from our miracle number five so I worry about setting myself up for disappointment. :-(

PeanutPatty · 12/06/2014 23:16

Join a running club, run with a friend(s), do Park Run each week.

KindofGreen · 12/06/2014 23:29

Ed Whitlock is setting veteran World records at 80. This sort of thing inspires me. I know I'll never win Olympic gold but maybe just maybe by the time I'm 80 I'll be good enough...

I broke a bone in my ankle 5 weeks ago and haven't been able to run in that time.

It has been a nightmare! I've been grumpy and irritable, miss my time to clear my head/ work off frustrations, I'm putting on weight and generally feeling flabby.

Plus I'm only 5 parkruns away from my red Tshirt, so I feel very frustrated that I can't get going again soon.

PeanutPatty · 17/06/2014 12:40

MrPP announced yesterday that I get grumpy if I don't run regularly! Grin

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 17/06/2014 19:53

I ran yesterday!

I wet back to week 5 of couch25k and ran a total of 18 minutes. It was hot and my legs felt very tired (it's that that stops me rather than my breathing I think) but I did it. I'm knackered today!

No chance to go today or tomorrow as DH is away, but I'm planning to go again on Thursday.

Thanks all for your inspiration!
