Has anyone got a Fitbit?

Are they any good? Do they track your heart rate as well as steps? Would it for example pick up exercise done on a static bike?

Yes, I have one. It isn't a heart rate monitor but you press when you start exercising so it logs that you work out but it can't work out as assurately as a heart rate monitor

Thanks Reastie, what about swimming? Would it pick up that I was swimming or would I have to do the same thing?

No, for any activity that isn't walking or running, you just tap the Fitbit at the start and end of your exercise and then you can input what you've done on your computer.

What it isn't is a high tech sports monitor. What it is brilliant at is just tracking every day activity and nudging you to do more. Kind of a pedometer on steroids.

oh, thanks for that tender buttons. I think that's what I need to be honest. I'm super unfit after years of injuries and contemplating a steep climb to get fit in the next few months!

I love my fitbit, use in conjunction with MFP so if I eat 500 calories less than I burn every day I slowly lose weight. Keeps me motivated, hate not getting my steps, even if I do have to march out in front of TV some nights :)

OuchyMcOuch · 09/06/2014 18:24

peanutbutterfingers… would you recommend it then? Have you managed to lose some weight on it? or is it better for general fitness improvement?
(I need to do both Grin)

I love mine and find it a great motivator but I was given it from a lovely lady on mn, I don't think I'd pay for it as its so £ for what I use it for. It's great in that it all syncs with mfp. Btw I'm not sure if it's waterproof for swimming though might need to check that. What I'd love is if it had a built in heart rate monitor t o work out calorie usage.

I was really shocked by how little movement I did, work from home most days so wasn't even getting 4,000 steps. Motivates me to move, to get 'active minutes', I like gadgets and charts so works well for me. Use for general fitness and steady slow weight loss

OuchyMcOuch · 09/06/2014 19:59

Reastie… does it really have a heart rate monitor? I thought it didn't. So if I did some really vigorous housework for example, would it pick that up?

no it doesn't have a heart rate monitor, but I'd love it IF it did even more (sorry, should have made that more clearer and not get your hopes up)
