A good pair of cross fit training trainers. Don't skimp on these, they will support your feet and legs x

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 29/05/2014 16:25

And get a really good sports bra! Anyone you think is looking at you and judging is more likely just staring into space. If there are classes, I find them much better for motivation than doing it by myself. Good luck, it's a great start!

HaveAGander · 29/05/2014 16:33

Enjoy yourself, that's the most important part. Don't force yourself to do what you hate. If you hate cardio, lift weights instead. If you don't like weights, do classes instead etc. If you don't find a way to enjoy it you wont want to stick with it.

nightshade1 · 29/05/2014 21:55

right I have a decent sports bra, I do need to get some new trainers but will have to make do with my current ones for the induction and get into town at the weekend for some new ones.

Im petrified!

Don't be scared just take it slowly and don't give up

nightshade1 · 30/05/2014 09:10

no one will laugh will they?
im going to be the huge sweaty blob making the place look untidy amongst the skinny muscley people who know their stuff and don't fall over at any given opportunity. (I do lots!)

ive got my gym stuff out and have told my DH so I cant back out now but I want to run for the hills (not literally, my gait is more of a lollop like a half dead hippo)

It will be ok wont it? not anywhere near as bad as I imagine?

Hope it went ok nightshade. I was that half dead hippo 9 months ago, and after the help and support of people I met at the gym, I'm just home from a 5km run, and I'm 3 stone healthier. So if I can do it, you'll be great!

TheLemonisinPlay · 30/05/2014 22:38

I hope it went OK.

I was the person you described not so long ago. No-one notices you- most people are wrapped up in their own workout.

Have fun and enjoy becoming the best version of you.

RachaelAgnes · 31/05/2014 11:32

I went in yesterday to get a pool timetable, came out with gym and swim membership.

Hopefully will be the start of a fitter, healthier me.

Hope the induction went well

nightshade1 · 31/05/2014 12:14

I did it! it wasn't anywhere near as bad and scary as I had built it up to be, I was there for over 2 hours and im going again in an hour - I asked for a second induction just to make sure I was doing it right.

I didn't pass out
I didn't fall over
and I didn't cry
which I think is quite an achievement.

Woo hoo nightshade!!!

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 31/05/2014 18:39

That's brilliant, well done! I found the first flush of enthusiasm great and by the time it wore off I was in enough of a routine of going that I miss it when I don't. My boot camp trainer jokingly called me a "gym junkie" last week, and really, he's kinda right!

patrickduff20 · 02/06/2014 08:01

Yo bro...Wink

nightshade1 · 02/06/2014 11:49

well Saturday I went and did the whole program I was set and more! Yesterday I was busy so didn't go to the gym but did make it to an aqua class.

today im planning on an aqua class and the gym this evening.

im going to try and keep this tread going as a diary for myself and so you can all kick my butt if I try and quit. Grin

Well done Grin
I'm a size 16 and a little heavier than you and I love the gym. Since that I've also taken up pole fitness which I adore. It gets addictive after a bit

MrsBartowski · 03/06/2014 09:09

I'm a size 16 too and I'm in a love affair with my gym just now.

Try all the classes you can. I read the write ups and hated the idea of so many but I set myself the challenge to try all of the ones that fit into my day no matter what they were and I actually ended up loving the two I thought I would hate the most.

Just try them. You are only going to be there for an hour and you never have to go again if you hate it that much.

I also decided to reward myself for 3 months of gym use with some new kit as I was still in the stuff I'd had for years so it was a nice incentive.

One thing I would say is that don't get hung up on the scales. Try measurements as a guide. Some weeks I put on weight even though my clothes felt lighter and it's all do do with building muscle really.

Enjoy!

nightshade1 · 03/06/2014 09:30

well I did go to aqua but didn't get to the gym as ended up taking my DS to a&e after a fall at school. (and we had fish and chips afterwards)

im going to go tonight planning on doing my program and looking at the 360 class to see if its do-able or far beyond me.

im ignoring the scales im focusing on my clothes (and my wedding dress -under 4 weeks to go!)
