Logging my daily JM fix and getting advice and motivation has been great over the past two months so here is a thread for all those of you who want to do the same again or for the first time. Come on, summer's nearly here and your butt's got Jillian's name on it Smile

Rin30 L2 D4 done. It is hard isn't it Lambzig. Slightly given me the fear of what to expect next. Due to lots of running about mornings I missed a day last fri and felt quite sad about it. So today I leapt out of bed and managed to do it while the kids we're having breakfast. It made our morning just that tad madder but it meant that i could head out with the toddler rather than having to come back and do my JM. I think I will get super organised at night for the morning and hopefully fit it in while kids are eating. Helped that I was on a fast day today too.

30DSL2D8

I don't feel quite as dead today, I don't know if I'm getting used to it or if I was accidentally taking it a bit easier, my back's a bit sorer than usual, so I might have been.

My back's a bit dodgy, but exercise helps it so I don't purposely take it easy, but that seems more likely than that I got fitter overnight, lol

TorianaTollywobbles · 12/05/2014 20:06

Hello can I join in,

Started the 30DS, am up to L1 day 7 I think. Can do most Natalie moves except for the pushups, and the bicycle crunches still kill me. But am going to plan to move up to L2 on Day 11.

Is it a good idea to move up, even if you're still slightly struggling with Level 1?

Am trying to get fit and toned for Florida in June! Started it a couple of years ago but never got past the first few days. Really want to carry on to see what a difference it can make.

PrivateBenjamin · 12/05/2014 20:11

30DS L2D4 today. My legs have got pretty muscley since I started but I still haven't lost a pound.

PrivateBenjamin · 12/05/2014 20:17

Toriana Welcome! Yes, I moved up to level 2 even though my push ups were pathetic, and Anita is still there on level 2 if you're struggling to do the full move.

Natalie is super fit, I don't think anyone would ever be able move up a level if they had to follow her moves for the whole level to progress! Smile

TorianaTollywobbles · 12/05/2014 20:19

Yes have just watched through L2 to see what its like. Think I might be following Anita for the first few days Grin

Going to try it on Thursday, then we are out on Friday night so will get a rest day after.

BetterWithCheese · 12/05/2014 21:10

L2D3 done - still hard work, there are so many plank-based exercises that my poor core struggles by the end. Just got a shiny new weight set so that will help me get through tomorrow's session Grin

BetterWithCheese · 12/05/2014 21:17

Torianna if you can do mostly Natalie, you're doing fab. I'm quite enjoying level 2 but that may just be the novelty factor as level 1 gets repetitive after a bit.

I read an interesting idea of cycling through the sessions so doing level 1 on day 1, level 2 on day 2 and level 3 on day 3 so that you vary the muscles worked. I may try this after I've finished doing them consecutively.

TorianaTollywobbles · 12/05/2014 21:28

Thanks Better

Yes am getting a bit bored with L1, can almost repeat Jillian word for word!

I still have to give my arms an occasional rest through the squats and anterior raises, but do ok with the rest of it. Will look forward to L2 (I think)

StuntNun · 13/05/2014 07:24

Cheese that's what I'm moving on to. I went back to level 1 after Easter as I had been away for a while and wanted to ease back into things and I actually got a good workout because I was really going for it. Also you can take elements from the other levels such as doing the jumping jacks with weights or doing double jump rope instead of jump rope.

Lambzig · 13/05/2014 10:04

Rin30 L2D2 done. The strength section in circuit 2 is a killer. I have to say I am finding it a lot less boring than 30DS, I think because their are three strength moves in each circuit, so if you hate something, it only lasts for 30 seconds.

I couldn't do the bridge thingy as my arms are a bit short until I tried going up on my weights and I think that works if anyone else has freakishly short arms (wasn't aware of this before now).

safetyzone · 13/05/2014 10:49

Back on 30DSL1D6. Had the weekend off for various reasons. Been very careful with the abs still, tried to do them more the way I did in the Pilates class. Strength section still the hardest, particularly the pushups. I feel that I'm not going deep enough with the push ups, but if I do the easy version it's quite easy. Otherwise I'm looking forward to L2 as the rest are starting to get a bit easy.

yadahyadah · 13/05/2014 14:33

Ri30 L2D5 done this morning before school drop off. My kids are being so very understanding about letting me get on with it after getting their breakfasts set up and giving them a good audio book to listen to while they eat seems to prevent boredom induced aggro from them. Have to say the feeling of getting to school with minutes to spare having done my crunch (as it is known in our household) is a really good one.

lambzig I find the 2nd strength circuit is really tough. I can only do 1 round of full crow push ups and actually see droplets of sweat falling to the ground from my head while I am doing them. But on the positive side it does all get strangely more doable over day 3 And 4 ...

Lambzig · 13/05/2014 14:41

Yes I had the buckets drops of sweat pouring off my forehead, particularly during the squats.

MegBusset · 13/05/2014 20:09

Hello! Can I join in? I have shredded on and off for the last year or two, as well as running, but for various boring reasons I have let it slip side Christmas and put on half a stone which really needs to - especially as I can't get my favourite summer shorts on!

I am doing the shred every morning (if I have a day off it too easily turns into two then more) plus trying to do 30 mins of cardio 2/3x week - either running 5k or doing Burn Fat Boost Metabolism.

Currently on level two of shred - have never made it to level three! BFBM is a killer but one bonus is it makes the shred seem almost easy Grin

PrivateBenjamin · 13/05/2014 20:22

Oooh Meg I think i will try BFBM then. The full video of BFBM on youtube is 55 minutes, is that how long it is in real life or does that include a few different options you can skip through?

Did L2D5 today, I'm getting much better, can do almost all of it without stopping, but i keep pushing myself into a downward dog instead of plank on the planking exercises. I need to try and fix that, it's easier though!

MegBusset · 13/05/2014 20:49

Yeah, BFBM takes nearly an hour start to finish . On the DVD you can skip to each circuit though so you could easily make it a shorter workout.

Burmahere · 13/05/2014 21:07

Hello could I possibly join the thread please? Smile.

I've literally only just started doing 30DS L1D2 but am fairly fit (or thought I was) as I run, cycle and do yoga.

I've read this thread the whole way through and everyone is very inspirational - do many of you run or cycle on the same day as doing shred or should it be one or the other? I think I've massively overdone it the last couple of days as I feel peculiarly exhausted but can't sleep! Newbie enthusiasm I suspect Blush.

I was talking to a friend this morning who has trained in various disciplines for many years and she thought it unwise to do the same exercises on consecutive days as you shouldn't exercise the same muscles too many days in a row. This obviously goes against Gillian's ethos but I love the workout and so many people seem to gain great benefit from it.

Any opinions?

ErrolTheDragon · 13/05/2014 23:06

Burma - I think it's a bad idea to do hardcore weight training (with bigger weights, lower reps) using the same muscle groups each day, but the JM dvds are high reps, low weights. I've been doing various of them for months now - always have the weekends off, and breaks during the hols but nearly every schoolday.

I'm doing L2 of 6w6p this week... ok but don't like it as well as shred/ripped or NMTZ. For something that's meant to focus on abs it has a lot of lunges, so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with dodgy knees.

StuntNun · 13/05/2014 23:13

Kettlebells today, will shred tomorrow if the children behave.

Burma you don't train the same muscles on consecutive days when you are weightraining the muscles to exhaustion. For the type of exercises on the JM DVDs you probably could do them every day although you would get better results with at least one rest day each week.

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 14/05/2014 00:16

I have decided that it's actually no bad thing that I've missed a few days (just had yesterday and today off, but planning to Shred again tomorrow) as my knees are starting to protest a bit. Better to do it every 2-3 days and build up than to get injured and have to stop altogether I reckon! Today I did a LOT of walking instead so I don't feel too guilty. Am v impressed at everyone who's managing to do it daily though!

Burmahere · 14/05/2014 07:14

Ah ok thank you very much! I think I end up having the odd day off from exercise in general as other stuff gets in the way.

yadahyadah · 14/05/2014 11:47

Ri30 L2d6 done and am getting stronger in all the moves day by day. Feels great to feel the improvement so fast. Welcome megbusset I am hoping to do BFBM after my current round of Ripped. Thought I would aim for three days of BFBM and th en have two easier days of Shred. Do you think it might kill me? That's ok as long as it does actually help with fat burning. What do you reckon?

ditsygal · 14/05/2014 11:57

Hey guys, Can I join you? A bit late in the month I know!
I've done 6 days of level 1 then I have just done first day of level 2 today. I was starting to feel ok doing level 1 and feeling good about my improved fitness, but level 2 almost killed me! I couldn't keep up and couldn't do several of the moves very well - felt like I was just flinging myself around!
It didn't help that my living room rug kept moving around as there are so many plank based exercises. Think I will have to roll it up each day from now on! Please tell me level 2 starts to feel easier quickly?!

MegBusset · 14/05/2014 13:12

The exercises in BFBM aren't harder than Shred overall (and a lot of them will be familiar to Shredders, like skaters and high knees/butt kicks) but the relentless cardio and the fact that it's longer makes it harder. There are one or two really hard moves in there but she moves on quickly so the pain never lasts for long (at least in one place) :)
