First marathon for my 3 y.o. 1.5 miles for 3-8 years old children.
Has anyone done one of these? Any tips&tricks on how to prepare and make the most of the day? It has to be good fun, but I also hope to get some fitness & learning benefits for the LO. Thank you.

We did the Sport Relief mile as a family the other week, DD2 has just turned 3yo. DD1 is 5 and started complaining after the first 400m (and it was her idea!), DD2 surprised me by running for most of it.

Can you run with him or find an older child to run with him if adults aren't allowed?

A couple of little trots around the block will be fine for training, I often do this with my eldest DD as a warm up for my long runs. Make sure he has proper trainers, especially if the race is on tarmac.

We put the emphasis on fun rather than on running the whole thing or even completing the race. At this age you don't want to put them off by taking it seriously. If he gets bored (and he might, 1.5 miles is a long way for a 3yo!) then try hopping, skipping, singing, running backwards, telling jokes etc. And always keep the option of a piggy back open!
