Where can I get cheap running shoes?

I want to start C25K, I only own converse type trainers so need a running shoe but don't have a lot of spare cash.

Is there anywhere I could get a reasonably priced running shoe?

Adidas online have 50% sales quite often. Just got some for £22. Or try Decathlon

MandMDirect usually have some heavily discounted big name brands.

I'd say Sports Direct. Or Sweatshop often have sales on.

However I have to say - once you get more mileage under your belt - then please get your gait checked out and maybe buy some better quality running shoes. The cheap ones are okay for a while, but aren't always great for your body.

Agree with princessalbert - do get properly fitted ones once your mileage starts to go up.

Our local Sweatshop has an 'outlet' shop just a few doors up, where they sell off their returned shoes for a fantastic price. The staff are always really helpful, so if you got assessed in the main shop and told what to look for, e.g. lots of cushioning, arch support, etc, then went along to the outlet shop and told them what you needed, they would be able to tell you which shoe would fit those criteria. For a fraction of the price.

They have a 30 day no quibble return policy for new shoes, so if you get problems you can take them back and swap them. THey therefore have to sell on the returns, hence the great prices. I get all my DC's trainers in here now.

I echo everything above about getting gait analysed etc. Yet thing about "old stock" and internet sports shoes is that the rubber ages and hardens in time. Shoes that have wen sitting on the shelf for 18 months - 2 years will not have much life left on the cushioning.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions, I got a great pair from Sports Direct (Karrimor) for £24, really pleased and they felt very comfy on my first run.

I will see how I get on and maybe go to a proper running shop as suggested, it's my birthday in a couple if months so that would be a good pressie!

Is running in converse style (Albeit sturdier) shoes not advised then? I may have to order some new ones...

it must depend upon loads of things, how far you are running and how often and on what sort of terrain and how horrible or good (for running) your own bio-mechanics are and at what pace and so on

people run in all kinds of shoes or states of shoelessness, running shoes as we know them now are very new aren't they

Oh no, I'd definitely not recommend cushioned, supported shoes!

I've been barefoot running for years, before it even became a "thing"! I had so many problems with overly technical running shoes...I'd always get cramp, without fail and could never comfortably run as far as I can in super comfy barefoot running shoes.

Should also add, it's a different running style completely - shorter strides and landing on your midfoot as oppose to heel.

I'm with HMG83 on this. I would never buy a pair of highly cushioned/ "supportive shoes ever again. God knows how much money I have wasted plus weakening my ankles/feet/ strain on knees by wearing them for years.

It was only that the podiatry expert was something of a Dr McDreamy that he didn't get a punch in the chops.

I think that's nonsense. Your feet are made to support you naturally with running/walking. Supported this and the other is a very new thing and completely unnecessary and actually weakens/changes our natural strength/gait/posture - negating any actual medical issues with your bone structure obviously!!!!!

Sports shoe manufacturers have a lot to answer for!
