After Ive been running for about 20 mins my hips/groin really ache, more muscular than sharp pain. Is there anything I can do to improve this? Or will it just improve the more I run?

Are you stretching sufficiently for a warm up?

You could try some hip strengthening exercises. Have you had a gait analysis?

I've googled a few exercise so will be giving them a try. I haven't Eau, are they actually worth while?

Absolutely, if you over/underpronate then that might be contributing to your hip pain. If it's not over/underpronation then you can rule that out and concentrate on hip strengthening exercises. This is a really good article.
