Using podcasts and mapmyrun

I restarted running in the Summer as my local fitness centre started up a running group. Since then I've been running once a week with this group, with the maximum distance I've run is 5K. So, looks like this running group is going to fold in the new year due to low numbers in the winter months, but I want to keep on running... So to keep me motivated, I've entered a 5 mile run in March.

I've downloaded the 5K plus podcast from NHS, how do I use this alongside Mapmyrun? How do you plan the routes before you listen to the podcast? Does the podcast tell you when to turn round?! - Anything else?

thanks

I've got 3 podcasts for 5K+ - stepping stones, which is about 40 mins, speed, which is about 25 mins and stamina, which is about 45 mins, iirc.

I have a couple of routes that are 5-6 km, and have a couple of "extension" bits near home - so if the podcast tells me I've got 5 more mins, and then a 5 min cool down, I go past the house, down to the school, and cut back behind it.

I think most tell you that your "over half way there". Not exactly when to turn round, but I run a loop rather than there and back when possible - prefer it.

I use a desktop version of mapmyrun, sounds like you've got a mobile version, so no help there, I'm afraid.

How long did the 5km running club take? Maybe try that route with the podcast, and see where you finish??

Thanks addictedtosugar, that info is really helpful. I've downloaded all 3 podcasts early today, yet to use them. I've got desktop and mobile version of mapmyrun Smile
